What do you guys think of them? I've been looking for a new guitar for around this price range. ($400-600). My friends have told me a lot of good things about them. Tell me what you think of them.
they are ok, but if thats what you end up buying try a bunch of em and pick the good one. if you are looking for a strat sound then its a logical choice. there are other nice guitars in that range though. schecter makes some nice stuff for around $550-600
Good choice. Make sure you budget some money for pickup replacement, though. Also, have you considered a used Strat? Every so often, somebody on the Trading Post (usually Xssive) will offer a sweet hot rodded Strat for little more than a new one.
I'm with JB from hell...if you are looking for simply a Strat (and you do not have specifics in mind) a Standard Strat will do you just fine, and if it were me, I'd go used!
Check ebay for warmoth strats, you can pick em up for usually about 500 bucks and they will be 10 times better than a standard strat. Plus almost everone who makes on of these mods the heck out of it so you will usually end up getting a guitar that already has nice pickups or pickups you can sell for a good price, as well as tuners ect.
what they said

lol that's funny...yeah, i don't see the hype in the us fender strats (they are nice but a bit overpriced IMO)...the only plus to me on the us ones are 22 med jumbo frets vs 21 vintage...so i tend to just go crazy with the MIM standards and some come out to be great playing and sounding guitars...if you find the right one. i can't help you on a whole guitar though but i will in the near future have a MIM neck and body for sale if anyone needs it (cheap plug hehe). too bad this post wasn't here sooner i just sold a sweet MIM sunburst strat all done up on ebay...that i kinda miss now...oh well i have a new strat project in the works to replace it. but to answer your question, with the right pickups a MIM strat can sound and play great.

MIM Strats and Teles are the best deal for the dollar right now. Decent (note that I didn't say quot;greatquot;), playable instruments with usable tone right out of the box. You may have to do some work to them to make them quot;yoursquot;, but name me someone who doesn't customize to a certain extent on any instrment?
Jeremy put it best by saying, quot;try a bunch of em and pick the good one.quot; All MIM strats are NOT created equal, but if you play enough of them, you will find a diamond in the rough. You might not have to play a ton, it could be the 2nd one you try but if you find one you like it will be a good guitar.
I love mine and can't wait to put some SD's in it.
The MIM stds don't do much for me. I prefer the MIM ri models, which are a tad more expensive, but seem to be better made. As others have said, try a bunch.

Does anybody else think they're more consistent than most Korean or other overseas (besides Japan) stuff?
Play several. Find the best. Take it home. Refit with SD pups. Rock on.
Hey bro,
If you are looking for a vintage style strat (3 single coils and a standard trem) and you have $400-600, IMO you are a fool if you do NOT get a Jimmy Vaughan Strat...these are THE BEST Strat Fender is selling right now for the money...I would rather have one over any of the other MIM stuff, I'd take it over a Highway One or an American Standard. When I got mine, I used a Custom Shop 57 reissue to campare to...I even liked the JV better that the $3800 CS guitar!!! New at GC they are less that $600...I got mine used for less than that...lots less that that! These guitars are far better that the MIM Standard guitars...they have the same tremolo units and tuners from the American reissue and CS guitars, they have full size CTS pots, high quality switches, and even the stock pickups are pretty damn good!
