i really like the distortion tone i get on the Duncan Distortion, but since i run it thru a Recto, i can't clean it up very well. does anyone have a recommendation for a pickup with an quot;identicalquot; eq and magnet, but with a better, quot;cleanerquot; clean tone? (remember, i'm running it thru a Recto) i don't care if it sounds sterile or lifeless or whatever, as long as it's clean.

If you haven't tried this already, a Distortion quot;splitquot; pretty much becomes what you're describing.

duncan custom! trust me i had the distortion and hated it got the custom and it was very similar but just better overall
nice tight bass, balanced mids, good cutting treb but it would clean up when needed

First Choice would be a Custom 5, since it has tight lows, plenty of balls, and cleans up. Then Custom or JB. Those 3 pickups are always good choices for high gain amps.

you know what, i think now that it's not the pickup but the amp itself. i tryed running my other guitars thru the cleen channel and they reacted totally different then they normally do. i looked at the back of the amp and (from left to right) the 1st 6L6 looks a little dim on the top and the 3rd one isn't lit at all. i have the gain on channel one down enough to still hear the guitar, and its still fuzzy and compressed sounding.

I'm thinking it's your amp as well.

As soon as I read that I immediately thought quot;well no **** it doesn't clean up well, quot;. Dude it is deffinately the amp. If you want good clean tones Buy a Fender amp, If you want good distortion Buy a Mesa, or Marshall. Ya can't really expect one amp ta be great at both.....But it should at least be able to DO both. even if it sucks at one....haha.

Buy a different amp (unless you like amps that aren't versital).....Ed

JB....it cleans up nicely and it has good cleans too..........

Dimebucker all the way, bro.

It's a cross between the Invader and the Distortion with killer cleans.
It even has a cool twang.

I agree with what some of the other guys said. Mesa amps aren't the greatest for clean sounds Give a Carvin legacy or an old Marshall VS series a try.

ps... I'd go with the JB every time
