hi, im new here and i need some suggestions.
i wanna upgrade my fender strat. i just bought a hot rail for the bridge and a cool rail for the neck. but wich one i should use for the middle one???

id like some thing like the hot and cool rail, i mean a humbucker in a single coil. i tought the vintage rail should be good but i need to be sugested.

thanks

hey, welcome to the forum.
What kind of sound are you looking to get out of you middle pickup?

I'd say go with a Vintage Rail in the middle position.

I'd say something quot;differentquot; for mid, so that when you're blending it in, those positions on the 5-way switch displays some character. How bout a nice lil'59 or hot stack or somesuch.

a duckbucker

why not keep it stock?

with pickups that high output, you can lower the stock one till its flush with the pickguard, and switch to it when you need to clean up amp; get less volume

for instance, start a song with the middle pickup, slow kinda riff, let the last note ring, switch to the rail, and then let all hell break loose

Rio Grande Muey Grande...I just got one and it smokes!

well im looking for something with a lot of output that sounds great when ill mix with cool or hot rail.
thanks

You don't want to overpower the neck pickup. I'd go for another Cool Rails for the middle pickup. Lew

That was my second choice. No really! It's not just because Lew said it!

Seriously, that was my second choice.
And is the Ducky really the same as a Vintage?

hi, what if i put another hot rail on the middle?
will i have a good sound while ill blend the 2 hot rails togheter.

and if i put another cool rail will i get a good sound while ill blend the 2 cool rails togheter?

im looking for heavy sound on the bridge, and a good clean sound on neck. i really dunno what to put in the middle to get a good sound while ill blend the 2 pick up togheter

thanks for replying

then go for a vintage rail.

This wouldn't match, but the Silver Lace Sensors are beyond awesome. It's a 70's Strat sound. The Blue (vintage humbucker tone) is incredible, as well.

Hmmm... I have a Duckbucker that I tried out in a few guitars and it was very unusual in that it had a lot of notched position quot;quackquot; by itself or in combination with other pickups. As a matter of fact I had tried it with a Cool Rails bridge and a Hot Rails neck pickup (I guess a customer before me had bought the HR bridge and CR neck!)

AFAIK the Vintage Rails does not exhibit the same quot;quackyquot; character I had observed. Here's what the product listing has to say: quot;Such a silly name for such a serious pickup! Using a patented design and a voicing based on our Vintage Rails™. Duckbuckers offer the advantage of incorporating six fully adjustable pole pieces.quot;

The sound sample page here has a strat with Duckbuckers in all 3 positions- funny thing is that it seems to me to have more of a telecaster twang than a stratocaster quack! I never seriously considered a guitar with 3 Duckbuckers but it would provide a nice contrast to all of my Stevie Ray Wannabee strats...

i think im gonna put the vintage rails in the middle. so now id like to know is it gonna be compatible??

do i have to buy the vintage rail neck or bridge if i wanna put it in the middle??

thanks

Yes it will be compatible.
A neck vintage rail would work better than a bridge IMO.

There are many people on this forum with Cool(n), Vintage(m) and Hot Rail(b) equiped Strats. It's a combo I have definitely considered for one of my Strats.

I had a Duckbucker in the mid position of LesStrat...didn't like it. I tried the CR in the neck...didn't like it (frankly, I don't remember why...I just know it didn't sound like I wanted). Swapped the HR and CR so that it is now

HR/CR/HR

lt;-------------

Now, THIS, I like. But, all three pups are high output. However, I like it like that.

With a HR in the neck and in the mid, the two sounded to much alike. I was going for 3 distinct tones for the 3 pups. My current configuration gave me what I wanted.

I also installed push/pull pots in order to allow coil-splitting. (Actually, that project is what got me to check into this place) *cues Eagles classic tune*

BTW, welcome to the forum.

I love the duckbucker, id love another for the mid position of my squier, great pickup.
