I'm in need of some amp help. I wanna get a nice practice amp. Im thinking a 2x12 or something in that area would be nice, but I'm out of the loop on the new stuff. Im gonna be using it for home use and a practice here and there. I'll be playing mostly metal with it. So, what would you guys suggest?

How much are you looking to spend? My first thought is a Line 6 Flextone.

Peavey XXX or 5150, the Traynor Blue 50watt with EL34's, Mesa F-30 or 50, maybe a Rectoverb combo if you like that kind of tone.

What's your budget? That will narrow the choices down nicely.

Buy a Vox Valvetronix AD60 head used for around $400.

Using the Recto model, with 3 different OD models, you can dial in several different flavors of the best metal tones. It's not until you bring it home, plug it into your cabs, and really dial it in that you find out how good it can sound. The good part is that you can use it at super low volumes, using the variable wattage selector.
The built in tuner, and direct recording make it a perfect practice rig. I had mine in the repair shop for awhile, since I screwed it up, and never realized how much I liked it, till it was gone for a couple months. It's the best practice rig, and excells on highgain tones even moreso than Line 6. It looks retro, but sounds as heavy as any highgain tube rig.

Joneser, is this the same head your talking about? I've been looking around on the net and havent seen much info on one.
