well does anybody have any experience with them?
also what pickups would suit it?
Yeah ... I have/had one.
I hear some of them are somewhat decent ones out there, but I haven't seen one. At least you're not thinking of a brand new one. I bought one new and found out that basically lost $700.
In 1998 I paid in $US
- $670 for the guitar
- $200 for the case
- $200 for pickups
Which comes to a grand total of $1070 US for a guitar that now sell on eBay with hardcase for $200-300 ...Not to mention it was crap quality, and as I later found out came from the factory with the wrong neck.
So yeah ... I'd spend more on shipping it to the buyer than what I'll get in return so it's cheaper for me to throw it away.
As for problems.
Electronics - Crap
Pickups - Not bad
Nut placement - Off by 2mm
Neck ... wrong neck for that model and getting a replacement neck is a dog's breakfast
Wood - I've read many differing reports as to what SHOULD be in them ... mine was a low grade poplar (actually it's a heck of a lot softer than poplar which has me scratching my head), and a bubinga fretboard (granted I've been told it's actually walnut ... go figure)
Maybe I'm gripping but I was an idiot to buy the thing. Just my .02 (I threw '59/Full Shred combo in there - the '59 in the neck wasn't the best choice)
As a rule, the Korean ones suck and the Japanese ones are actually not bad at all.... The Performer series was originally MIJ as the quot;successorquot; to the Concept series, when production was moved to Korey the quality went right down teh crapper.... so in ´98 the Korean plant and the Performer series were both terminated
