Whats up guys! Great site you got here. I love it. Well, I just bought one of the new Fender lite-ash strats w/ the SD pups and Im having some issues. In positions 1,3,5, the hum is TERRIBLE!! Not on just high gain settings ( Pod XT live) But even on clean channels the hum is still pretty prevalent. But in positions 2 and 4, DEAD quiet. Ive never encountered this problem w/ Sd`s before on any of guitars. Any tips? Thanks.
Those guitars come with APS-1, and they are true single coil pickups...that means that they hum.
BTW...welcome to the forum!!!
Thanks alot, man.
I feel a sheilding answer in bound. Welcome to the forum.
yeah that's completely normal. If anything you might need a better shielding job. You can't really do much about hum with single coils.
Yeah the hum is quite amazing on that guitar, I can't even tune it in pos 1-3-5! The tuner cannot track the note, it tracks the hum!
I noticed that the pickguard is shielded only above the control cavity (the cavity itself however is covered in shielding paint. I guess a complete pickguard shielding would help.
Also, the hum is horrible through my PodXT, but somehow, true my real amp (Marshall 50w) it's much less apparent, even though a run a OD pedal into the crunch channel.

What these guys are saying is all true. Also, look around in the environment for things that will make the hum worse.
Florescent lighting, for example.
Any chance you've got a computer monitor on nearby?
If so, turn that off (even if the computer is off, power the monitor down) and see if it doesn't help. I love the sound of single coils on my recordings, but I use the computer to record, so I have to flip the monitor off during tracking.
Hope that helps.
Mark
I tried this guitar one hour ago, and i have to say that the pickups are great, but the guitar itself is bad.
of course they do hum because they are single-coils, but i think a shielding could help a bit.
Sorry to say that, bu the Fender guitars i tried in the shops are setup very bad.
For the money you could expect more.
