Serial for this guitar is 283663. On the headstock it says quot;Charvelquot; (logo image) and below it stands quot;by Jackson/Charvelquot;. Can somebody identify this guitar please. It says on the neck plate that is USA. It is H-S-S guitar, with angled neck, 22 frets, floyd rose witch has normal nut (graphtech i think) and the locking nut too. Floyd is licenced by jackson and it looks like OFR, the tremolo bar is with screw. It has dots on the fretboard. Thanks guys for your help
It's MIJ, thats all I can tell you.
Model 4 had sharkfins IIRC, so I'm gonna say maybe a model 2 or 3? which one was the HSS?
Zerb is the man for Jacksons/Charvels...he'll chime in soon...
Yes its made in japan i have done little surf on the web and i was at harmony-central and from the reviews i should say that is probably model 3 or model 375 but i think model 3. Also if somebody know to tell me how to intonate that floyd rose (it is intonated but i want to know) and which wood is use for body, alder or basswood?
If a licensed floyd, you probably just have to loosen the allen screw on the saddle and bump it whichever way you need it to go, then tighten it back down, unless it's one of the wierd variants. If you have to go too far, you'll have to move the screw to the other hole (either in front of or behind).
logo image is one of the model series the 375 is the toothpaste logo and has no by jackson/charvel in the name just an (R) next to the L... hss and bolt on strat bodies were model 4's i believe AFAIK they had dots. model 5's had sharkfins, mod6's are already neck through. for the lower ones, mod 2's were singlehums for the most part and had kahlers
but i could be wrong on all accounts but these:
it's a model series charvel, made in the 80's in japan. great players
body should be poplar right?
Davey..wasn't the model 5 the 2 HB version of the neck through?
Basically the 4 amp; 6 were identical..one bolt, one neck through...
I could be wrong too, but I swear the Model 4 I had briefly had sharkfins...
i was doing more research and i thnik that is model 3. I just don't know which wood is used for the body and what do you think with combo normal nut and locking nut?

I磍l try
It says on the neck plate that is USA.
No it doesn磘, it only lists a PO. Box address in Fort Worth, TX, which was the Headquarters of AMIC (parent company at the time) ... but it磗 a common mistake

Charvel Model 3, MIJ ?87-89..... But the trem bothers me, those had JT-6 trems and they have a pop in bar (practically identical to an Ibanez Edge bar, but chrome).. A pic would help me be sure

1. Detune the string
2. loosen the setscrew in front of the saddle
3. slide the saddle in the appropriate direction
4. tighten the screw
5. retune the string
6. repeat until the intonation is perfect
Body wood is Basswood, sometimes Poplar.. never seen an alder one.Originally Posted by Daveylogo image is one of the model series the 375 is the toothpaste logo and has no by jackson/charvel in the name just an (R) next to the L... hss and bolt on strat bodies were model 4's i believe AFAIK they had dots.
3s AND 4s... early 4s had a Kahler PRO and dots, later 4s had sharkfins and the JT-6.
model 5's had sharkfins, mod6's are already neck through. for the lower ones, mod 2's were singlehums for the most part and had kahlers
1s were Bolt-on, Singlehum with V-trem and dots
2s were Bolt-on, singlehum with Kahler fulcrum trems and dots
3s were Bolt-on, H-S-S, dots, Kahler PRO in ?86 and Floyd from ?87-89
4s were Bolt-on, H-S-S with Kahler PRO and Dots in ?86 or Floyd and Sharkies from ?87-89, Active electronics
5s were neckthru, H-H, dots, Kahler PRO in 86, Floyd from ?87-?89
6s were neckthru, H-S-S, Sharkies, binding, Active electronics, Kahler PRO in ?86 Floyd from ?87-?89
7s were Bolt-on, S-S, Hardtail and dots
There were Variants such as the 5a (singlehum),2b (HSS) and 5fx (H-S), but those have suffixes to the model number.

Model 1-4s had standard strat sized bodies and were bolt-on... the neckthru 5 and 6 have Soloist style bodies, and the (elusive) model 7 is a bolt-on Tele. There is evidence of the Charvel Spectrum also having been available as the Model 8, but I磛e never seen one....
4磗 and 6s were similar, but the 4 also never had binding... 5磗 and 6s were always poplar (maple neck-thru, of course), wheras the others were usually basswood and sometimes poplar.
BTW, Pickups should be Jackson USA, a J80 or J90 at the bridge and 2 J-100 single coils... some had the4 J-200 stacked-singles, but those were generally only installed on the 4 and 6 because of the active electronics in those guitars.
i don't have picture of the floyd but the bar looks similar to this one from : localhost/but without this quot;bulletquot; extend...also the guitar is red and the other parts are black, also on the floyd it says Licenced Under Floyd Rose quot;somethingquot;

This is an important detail...
If that磗 the case:
Either you have one of these trems and the bar was swapped out (common mod)... that would 100% confirm that it磗 a model 3. That磗 the Jackson JT-6 trem which Jackson used from ?87-?89.
Or the Trem was swapped out for a Jackson/Schaller JT-590 (just as common a Mod)
Or the guitar is an Oddball (rare, very rare)
Or the guitar is a parts mutt after all (very common, literally thousands the world)... but the rest of the specs line up with a Model 3, and again Floyd swaps arent rare at all on axes with a JT-6
yeah that is the trem maybe the bar is the same who knows i am not expert for the floyd rose bridges but i know that it works very good Also what do you think about the combo normal nut (graphtech i think it is, its black color also) and locking nut. It suits me superb i just want opinion of your because as i can see you are the expert for charvels
Some piss about it all the time as an axtra friction point and yadda yadda blah, but the fact is that a well cut nut doesn磘 cause tuning issues.... in other words, it works just as well as a standard Floyd locknut does..... And there磗 the advantage of the Kahler style lock causing less of a tuning change when you lock it (read: less fine tuning necessary).... also many players get quot;hung upquot; on floyd-style locks, esp. on long slides down the neck, and that磗 not an issue here....
I personally prefer them. But I磎 also a Luthier that generally maintains his axes better than some soldiers do their Rifle
i belive you thanks guys for your help, esp. to you zerb. I know that there are better guitars but it's killer, feal amp; sound so it suits me thanks again mates

He's not an expert. He just stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
hahah you guys are great Can you tell me witch pickup (dimarzio only it's not an ad, in my country i can only find dimarzio (( ) should be good in bridge (hum) and neck (single) for hard amp; heavy, tight bottom end, not muddy, strong and clear distortion?
You磍l want to ask that in the Pickup lounge, the Bros will set you up right. I won磘 be chiming in on that one, though, for moral reasons (boycotting Dimarzio, this includes recommending or helping to fix, sorry )
But where are you?? If it磗 anywhere in Europe, I can help hook you up with a set of Duncans or EMGs

Ahhh dats right...4s weren't a soloist body and they lack binding on the neck......I had one of those elusive tele's..shoulda kept tha damn thing....The Model 4 too. The 6 didn't do too much for me (played great, pretty purple guitar..but..no mojo for me)
Knew you'd have the scoop...Thanks for the clarification, Zerb
i just stoped beating the **** out of my fusion (and floyd) (i cannot thank you enough tim!!!!!) i discover new sounds and things every day =)
where you from jovan? from the name, i'd judge.. hmm croatia? slovenia? .. unless it's a made up name and i'm shooting in the dark =/
