Still in my search for the (un)holy grail, WFD made me stumble across these two monsters... The Distortion and Custom.
Tightness is required in the bass only. The bass should also be VERY present and clear (as in the FullShred for instance). There should be enough for effortless chugging riffs and to make the overall sound solid and thick, but not as much as to make it muddy in any way. Mids should not be scooped out, but there should be just enough to bring out a lot of thickness. Highs should be there to allow for a slightly bright sound with EQ, but otherwise pretty neutral. They should be smoother than harsh, but harsh enough to perform aggressive leads. Finally, the pickup should be TICK.
What I'm wanting is pretty specific and I haven't found enough info about these 2 pups so... Fire away The body is basswood, for a rosewood fingerboard.

bumps...

Try the Custom with a large ceramic mag out of the DD. I had it in my 81 Hamer Special and it sounded just like you described.

Smart. I'll start by getting a custom then. Cheers!

You just described the (non-existant) perfect pup

Neither pup will give you EVERYTHING you want based on my experience. Based on your description though, I'd start with the Custom. The Distortion will have a bit more clear and punchy bass (The Custom has a bass frequency roll off somewhat similar to a slightly depressed wah-way pedal), but the mids aren't as thick and complex and the highs are a bit quot;harsherquot; and compressed. (though the Customs highs are compressed a bit as well).

Custom it definitely will be I'll see if anyone wants to trade the FullShred for one.

While I'm at it, any DiMarzio or other brands' pickups that sound as I described it...? Also how about Single Coil size buckers?
