Just wondering. Everyone slags the guy off, and I could bet a fair chunk of them have never talked to the guy or dealt with him. Not defending the guy cause I never met him myself. But the proof is in the pudding. So to those who've actually got experience with the above guitar, what was it like?
Never had any experience with the guitar, but I have with the man. He's a ******bag all the way, Impossible to communicate with unless you're famous or rich. He ended up costing me about $500 Canadian more than I was promised for in the first place. I love my Heritage to death but I want to shove it up his ass and give it a good twist for ****ing with a 15 year old dealing on his first decent guitar.
From a Gear Page member:I ended up leaving there with a Quicksilver. I have to say it was a very nice guitar. Not as good as a PRS, as it's billed, but very nice. Also not cheaper than a PRS, as billed. With all the options (which were pretty standard fare), it was close to $3000. When i finally found someone interested, I unloaded it for half what I paid. Costly experience number 1. 's gPlus the entire way through the build he was getting me to change my configuration or I'd quot;really slow down the delivery timequot;. He's got this thing where he feels like everyone should buy what he thinks is best, like Korina. He'll try and shove that down your throat, even if you're insistent on mahogany, for example.
My McNaught finally arrives. Sub-standard. The top was so dark that it masked the quilt. In areas of the top, it looked like someone had dragged steel wool over the undried paint. It was much closer to blue than the purple I ordered. Granted, this was Mcnaught's error, but Ed would not even get on the horn for me. He wanted me to call McNaught. Don't builders hire dealers to do exactly this type of stuff for them??? McNaught agreed to take it back and work on it, but I sold it, for another big loss, after barely a few weeks.
From a customer service perspective, he was the most abrupt, rude guy i've ever spoken with. One day I got quot;I really don't have time for you right now, can you call back later?quot; click.
I've heard some first hand accounts from people who've known him over the years. The stories are true. I'd have to say that someday the big karmic boomerang will come back around his way.
well...ive had personal experiences with him, and id say stay as far away as you can, and you can bet if i ever make it big, im going to wear an quot; ed roman sucks quot; t-shirt every time i go on stage or infront of a camera. because that guy's service is crap, and that guys ethics are crap, and that guy is just crap. i've played a few Quicksilvers and its nothin near what its cracked up to be. hes just trying to sell his stuff, and he'll do ANYTHING ( and i do mean anything ) to save a buck or two. that guy wouldnt know quality if it bit him in his ass once a day. some people may disagree. but thats my .02~
If the guitars are OK, but extremely expensive, plus he has lack of respect for the customer...please invest your hard earned cash in something that will show it's worth like a PRS, a Suhr, or a Driskill.
If nobody likes Ed Roman i wonder why every time there is a topic over here about him. Negative advertisment is still a very good form of advertising.....and he gets that for free from all of you.......just stop talking about him.....
Not necessarily... each time a thread is posted about him, at least one person is hearing the stories for the first time... last time there was a thread, it was me. Needless to say, I wouldnt consider doing business with him ever.
I don't have any direct experience with the guitar, because I only had a short time when I went into his store. It took several minutes to take in the massive number of guitars he had. It was incredible. After making it through the store I got down to business. My main reason for going to the store was to try a guitar with the Buzz Feiten system. I had never found one and wanted to hear firsthand what they sounded like.
I went to one of the salesmen and asked him if they had one. These guys are some of the most knowledgeable salesmen I've ever seen in a large guitar store, but they were also some of the rudest. I finally found one that would help me, and he took me straight to the man himself and told him I was wanting to play a Feiten equiped guitar. He asked Roman if those Washburns they had would be ok, and Roman called all his salesmen over and explained to them how the Feiten system was specific to each guitar so a mass produced Feiten system wouldn't be that great. He then told the salesman to go back and get his own personal guitar.
The man let me play HIS guitar, not one of the ones on the shelf. This one wasn't for sale - at least not for a reasonable price.
I paid close attention to him the rest of the time I was in the store, just to try to get an impression of him. He was really friendly with everyone and would tell you any and everything you want to know about the guitar you are looking at (don't expect that at guitar center!!!). One of the customers commented on how one of his guitars was very light but otherwise had a Les Paul feel to it and that that was his one problem with Les Pauls - the weight. Roman brought out a LP clone (also not for sale) that looked just like a LP, but weighed half as much. He claimed that he could use better quality wood and cut the weight down with no other substantial loss. The guy didn't ask him to play it. I was curious if it still had the thick sound you expect from a 60 pound piece of mahogany.
As far as calling his store, I've always been helped out when they transfer me back to one of the techs. His salesmen are rude, especially over the phone, so I always try to talk with one of their techs. They always seem excited to help. Maybe they just love talking guitars?
All-in-all, I had a good experience with him, and I won't hesitate to make a guitar purchase from him (I didn't have enough money when I was there). I've heard of some problems getting custom guitars from him, so I'll probably order a ready made one with a few modifications, just to see how things go before I make a big custom order. I think he gets a bad rap. You only hear about when the bad stuff happens. But I think the good probably outweighs the bad.
I can only think of one guitar store that I've been to more than once that I had a 100% good experience every time I went, and that store was owned and operated by a single person who only stocked gear that he knew was top notch and had a good knowledge of.
