I haven't had a chance to investigate this yet so I thought I would ask. I just played a special that was priced around $1500.00. I took a quick look at MF and they have it at 1800.00, but they also had the faded model which looks pretty much the same for around $750.00. Aside from the finish whats different about these two models?? Any help would be asppriciated.
I played the faded LP and thought it was terrible. I tried it through a Fender Twin RI, Blues Jr, several Marshalls, and a Vox Valvetronics head and could not get any usable tone out of it. It was probably the muddiest sounding guitar Ive ever played.
Dave the DC Faded doesn't compare to the Special you looked at in anyway other than maybe it has the same pickups. The Faded is a thinner body, lower quality woods and finishing. Not a bad guitar but not made to the same standards as the Special.
I'll bring my Special down Friday night and you can check it out. I really recommend looking for an early 90's Special and changing the pups to the Ant's. Only thing is you'd have a tuneomatic not a stopbar like the new Special. If you're looking at the DC though I don't imagine that is an issue. You can get a used Special for $700 or 800 in excellent shape a bit cheaper if you can forgive some bruises.
Thanks Scott,
I don't think I will be at the shop Friday though. I have some other stuff going on. I liked the sound of the special. I played it thru a Deluxe RI and was looking to use it for slide. It sounded pretty sweet!
