For anyone that can help me with this;

I have a Tokai SG copy with an all mahogany body amp; neck w/rosewood board. I find that the stock pickups lack warmth/depth/clarity (too muddy). I'm going for a pickup that'll capture that scorching Angus Young lead tone but also be able to handle mondo gain for metal playing.

From what I've researched on the forum the medium output '59 pup can get that vintagey ac/dc vibe. By the way are they alnico V magnets? I know that's what Angus used. On the other hand there's the Custom which has a beefier PAF tone apparently, but would that do the Angus type lead work?
And to add a final pickup to the mix; what about the Gibson Angus Young signature? That has the Alnico V with a little more juice from what I've read. Anyone tried that one? Appreciate any advice u guys might have.

i find the angus pup very bright and shrill unless its put thru a cranked tube amp and then it sounds pretty nice. but thru almost anything else, it sounds thin and piercing
the 59 is an alnico 5 mag and a good choice for what you are looking for.
the custom is too hot with its ceramic mag to get that tone. a c5 would be a better choice for an over-wound vintage type sound imo

Thanks. OK so if it were between the '59 amp; the C5 what would also be a good choice for metal {in the bridge position}?

The ANGUS is a nasty sounding pickup - NASTY in a good WAY! I loved it. However, it can be honky and shrill in the wrong rig. It goes really well with the 57 classic, though the 57 classic can lack clarity in the wrong guitar.The 59s (though I am not a huge fan of them) and the C5 would go well, though the C5 is not as rude in the mids as Angus tends to be. You really need a classic Marshall midrange to get there, not just pickups.

The 57 classics have a great tone for Angus, as does the Alnico Pro 2 (though it's a tad spongier).

Just another suggestion to further confuse you, but I love the CLARITY of the Dimarzio Virtual PAFs. If you want clarity, they are the ticket.
