....an amp with power dampening or power scaling???

The new Reeves line has power scaling amp; amps like the Mojave Scorpion have power dampening....just curious to hear your comments on this VS. using an attenuator.

In theory, it seems like the better option...............

I can let you know after tomorrow night as the new Knucklehead I just got has the ability to hit various wattages. Is this power dampening?

Basically...as my understanding goes...yes!

Definitely, fill me in once you take her around the block a bit.

Have you ever used an attenuator (to compare)....if so, which one? Results???

From Mojave:

quot;Power Dampening is a unique feature that allows infinite power levels to be selected. Not only does this preserve the tone of running the amp at full power, but also lengthens the life of the power tubes and output transformer. For example, with the Scorpion you can dial in anywhere between the maximum 50 watt to the minimum 3 watt output. If you need to get a full throttle overdrive tone, but at a volume you can play at home, then you can select the power or volume level that works best for you and still get the same tone you had with the amp cranked up. A much better solution that power brakes, soaks or attenuators.quot;

From Reeves:

quot;Power Scaling is a proprietary technology London Power developed to allow the maximum power of an amplifier to be dialed down to whatever level you need. Unlike power attenuators that are placed between the amplifier and the speakers - causing the amplifier to quot;cook itselfquot; and seriously shorten tube life. Power Scaling allows the power output stage to be variable from full volume all the way down to bedroom levels while still achieving power tube quot;break upquot;. Other advantages of Power Scaling are longer tube life at any setting less than maximum. When the Power Scale control in the minimum position the amplifier is now in standby thus eliminating the need for a standy switch.quot;

FYI, this was a thread over on The Gear Page

Thanks Curly....I found that right after I posted this over there!

Very interesting, no???

I'd read about this in one of Kevin O' Connors books .. the basic idea is good tone at low volume, without the downside of an attenuator.

From what I've gathered online, that power scaling really does work. Stephenson amps are very nice that use them, but they're also extremely expensive.

sounds really, really interesting!!!!

definitely something i'd be interested in...i'd love to have the quot;tonequot; at home since i do most of my playing there, but i'd love to have the option to get it to gig volume as well!?

hmmmm...!?

Yeah, the whole thing is intriguing....they sell a kit that you can wire into an existing amp...Hey Hoss.....is that quot;Peteyquot; in the pic???
