Whats the difference?
they are more or less the same but echo is often the term used for short (50-500 ms) delay while delay is used more ofter for the longer delays (550ms-several seconds)...
I agree with The Guy Who Invented Fire, although on occasion someone will use the term quot;echoquot; synonomously with quot;delayquot; regardless of delay time.

I also think of echo as being a very vintage, possibly tape effect (Binson Echorec) and delay as being more modern analog and digital chips. It's all the same idea however...
Delay.....Delay.....Delay.....Delay.....Delay.....Delay.....Delay.....

The other way I tend to think of it is that echo modulates, degrades, and/or runs the repeats into each other....similar to what an analog or multi-tap tape delay does.
Delay spits out identical repeats at a specific delay and volume. But that's just my opinon....they really are used interchangeably.

Nice graphical (or, uh, alphabetical) representation, guys!!! I think you summed it up perfectly. Refer all time-based effects newbies here!!!

Excellent!
Now who can represent phase, flange and chorus in the same manner?

Lol!
I agree with the guy. and artie and daisy's 'presentions'.
I usually associate echo with analoge delays, and echo with more modern and/or digital delays.
