well i had this wild idea to do a hot rodded 50's-esq strat and then i bought a pink pickup and it turned into a hot rodded 50s meets the 80s thing and i'm actually real happy with it. it started with a Fender 50s reissue strat body and as usal a warmoth guard i custom drilled for my own oddball control layout on this one (less is more!). the neck is a kinda a vintage/modern cross breed it's all maple with a heel adjust like a 50s would have and also uses vintage style tuners and the single string tree yet is 22 fret with a 12quot; radius with a graphite nut and 6100 frets. all that with a fairly meaty C shape which is real comfy to play all finished with tru-oil for a raw wood music man like feel. so, it's a bit confused as to what it is, is it 50s, is it 80s is it just XSSIVE lol...i don't know but it sure did come out cool IMO.

and this color is a PITA to take pics of, i took like 15 and got 1 ok one lol...

i think dangly and foamer should like this one...the rest of you may think i'm nuts hahaha.

I've always loved Green strats... saddly the closest i have to a green strat is a 1988 Inca Silver American Standard that has started to turn green..... It looks more green then silver.....

WhoFan

To quote Foamy...........I'm a fan.

How do you like the Tru-oil? Doesn't look like it colors the maple, which I dig. Does it just darken it a hair and bring out the grain? Looks great from here. I'll probably use it for my current warmoth project. I've been leaving them bare which probably isn't a great idea.

What pup ya got in the neck?

Very cool, you build some neat geetars.

thanks Mike! tru-oil is just amazing, you can do it a few ways either real thick coats where it hardens like a painted finish but still feels thinner and more alive than paint or like i did on this one really rub in the coats and it feels similar to raw wood (like EB music man guitars) yet more slick for sure and protects it better. also, it doesn't really do much to the color, it does like you said, darkens it a tiny bit and makes the grain show more which is cool...no real yellow or orange like tint to it which is nice IMO. from now on all my guitars i build will have tru-oil finished necks for sure, i'm hooked!! as for the pickups the bridge is a dimarzio air zone and the neck is a duncan little '59 all wired to 1 500k volume and a 3 way switch, nice and simple. i haven't played it much since i sent the neck out today to Dave (theodie) for him to make me a custom graphite nut for the 12quot; radius and while he has it it will also get a fret leveling. the nut i had in there was just for mock up and building. so, once it's back i'll see if i like the air zone and the little '59.

I actually think that this is cool as hell too. The color... pickguard... Everything fits perfect. I love it.

Beautiful! I'm actually planning on building a Warmoth Strat in hopefully the next year or so, pretty much in regards to your building style. It's still in the design stage, but I got LOADS of time to get it right.. hopefully it'll turn out as beautiful as some of the others you've built.

saweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet guitar!

You and your crazy colored pickups..

Once again, another sweet creation XSSIVE. Keep it up.

HELL YEAH!!!

You and Strats get along Mike.

I'm seriously considering building myself one once I get my bass sold... either seafoam or orange, haven't decided yet.

You've got balls... and I like it. Please just tell me you'll do that guitar justice and shred on it every once in while. You can't have a pink pickup and not whail on it.... Its just the law. Its like eating chicken nuggets with no sauce.

I love the guitar minus the pink pickup. Seriously, a black HB and it would be killer. Or I wonder how your hole-less cover would look?

(I love seafoam/surf green and think it's retro-punk-cool but the pink looks cheesy instead of cool...)

thanks guys! yeah the pink pickup is not for everyone. i actually bought it for another guitar but when i saw it with the surf green body i knew it had to go in there just to make the guitar look wild...and that it did!

-Mike

Thanks for the tips Mike, I'll definately give the tru-oil a try. This one's gonna take awhile as I'm painting the body, but I'll get some pics up when it's done.

This is the ONLY guitar I've seen of yours that I didn't like.

Well, I guess 1 out of 25 ain't bad.

lol. well ya can't win 'em all. i'm just getting bored of that same old crap that everyone has so i'm pushing the limits a bit here and there and the pink pickup certainly pushed them.

-Mike

I'll buy it if it gets too boring

(You can keep the pink bucker though... nothing against pink, but I want single coils )

slade

really really sweet. ANOTHER lovely axe in thy quiver !!

Another great guitar. You're building up quite a collection now xssive, maybe time to let a few go now?

Well Mike, it's not my favorite of yours, but it's pretty cool. I think I'd have made the pickups match each other, regardless of the color. Though I'm sure it's not easy to find a pink mini-bucker.

I'd kind of like to see a black/pink zebra humbucker in there. I think maybe I'm crazy, too.

Me likey!

pink pup and all...very cool
