Im looking at buying a 1x12 cab for my Crate amp. I would like a 16ohm 1x12, I play mostly bluesy\jazz stuff, with some gained up quot;lukater\carltonquot; esque sounds. Please advise on some good speaker choice's, Im looking at going through avatarspeakers.com

Thanks guys,
Ty

Im looking at maybe a greenback, or vintage 30, or may some eminence stuff

lastly, also a classic lead is in the running

Try the Celestion Century .

What kind of wattage is your crate? For a lower wattage combo, the Greenback would sound excellent IMO. If you're wattage is slightly higher, I'd recommend the Hellatone series that Dave is offering. Speaker already broken in, and one is a V30, the other is a G12H 30. The V30 will be a little more midrangy and puncy, and the G12 will be a little smoother with richers lows.

My vote would be Greenback if the amp wattage is lower, or the G12H. Remember, the G12 is still only 30 watts, and the V30 is 60 watts, so watch what you buy.

my amp is a 50watt amp, so I dont want a speaker that is lower wattage than the amp?

Nope....this leaves you with the V30 or speakers rated at least 50 watts. You can sometimes get away with a lower wattage speaker, because how often do you really run MAXIMUM wattage? I always go equal or higher rating just to be safe.

I'd go for a Celestion G12H30. The Classic 80 is a nice speaker too...voiced a little more like a 50/50 mix of British/American tone. I like the G12H30 better though...

The Vintage 30 is also a great speaker but it's a little brighter on top, less dense and crunchy in the mids and has less bass than G12H30.

The V 30 is one of my very very favorite speakers but I still like the G12H30 more.

the g12h30 is a 30watt speaker, it wont be a problem with my 50 watt amp???? Does that just mean that I'll get some nice speaker breakup earlier?

I think the G12H30, like the Vintage 30, will handle more than 30 watts. Maybe I'm wrong about that but I've never blown one and I'ved pushed them pretty hard. If you're worried about it go for the Vintage 30 instead. They definately can take 50 watts and more. Lew

A G12 80 would serve you well IMO. It's a versatile speaker and will definitely handle the power.

if you've heard and liked the tone that scott lerner get's with his new eminence wizard (comes in a 16 ohm version), you might be impressed ... he gets a very carlton/ford inspired tone with these and his fuchs amps ... check him at his message board where he links to clips

If your going through avatar, give them a call and tell them what kind of tone your wanting to go for and what you got and they'll give you some suggestions. I have some Eminence Governors and I'm very pleased. Also Avatar has links to eminence and celestion's websites, and they have alot of information.

Good luck.
