Hi All,
I'm very happy with the SD Jazz pickup I put in the neck of my hollow-body washburn (hb-30). Jazz is mostly what I play, so this pickup nearly suffices.
However, I'd like a few extra tonal options for some more modern stuff (mostly clean/chorus/mild overdrive type sounds) - I'd love to hear some of your suggestions?
cheers,
Aengus.
You could get a Jazz bridge version or a 59 bridge. Those would be great choices.
59/ Custom Custom. for mild drive, the '59 would be a highly recommended unit in the bridge. the Custom Custom has added midrange but it's not as overwhelming as the JB, it gives a good dose of clarity there.
The Jazz will have more bass than the Custom Custom so I wou;dn't suggest the Custom Custom for this application...even though I love it and use it myself with a Seth Lover neck.
Since the Jazz is an alnico 5 pickup with strong bass and treble, I'd suggest the alnico 5 59B for killer vintage paf tones or ceramic magnet Duncan Custom for a higher output pickup.
The alnico 5 JB would be a great choice too and is supposed to be Seymour's favorite bridge pickup with the Jazz neck. Played loudly, the JB can be a little to penetrating for some ears...like mine. But it's Duncan's #1 selling bridge pickup and a classic.
