Hi I have a Traynor YCV40 tube combo. Recently ive been having this problem
where ive been getting this constant muffled tapping/popping sound coming out the speaker( Even when its idle and im not playing anything). Its not very loud but its annoying and i cant figure out whats causing it.It seems to happen more when the amp is warmed up
and although I have heard it happen on both channels its almost always on the clean channel and when i switch to the overdrive channel it dissapears.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Start with checking tubes hopefully just a bad pre. could be a cold solder connection but I say start simple and go from there.

ok well, i dont have any other tubes to swap to see if thats what the problem
is. Is there somthing phsically to look for to tell if one of the pre amp tubes is shot? Sorry if this is a dumb question but i dont have much experience with it.

thanks

Try swapping their positions, be noce to have some spares but this may also give you an idea/

If you got stock tubes in it then I would start by replacing all of them first. They ship those amps with crap tubes from the factory. I had the YCV80Q for a while and I put all new jj's in and it made a world of difference in the overall tone and drive of the amp.

You can however gently tap the tubes while the amp is on one at a time and see if one has gone microphonic. You will hear it through the speaker if one has.

But I still recomend filling it with new tubes. Then if you have the same problem contact Traynor and tell them..... they are REALLY cool and will take care of you.
