Okay so it's not a 335, but an Epiphone Sheraton II...close and most know 335's
Stocks are bad. SD site seems to have full size humbuckers geared towards les Pauls.
I want a nice versatile guitar. Able to get rude. But comfortable and sweet in the jazzy noodlings. Not too hot.
I think its a maple body???
Liked the specs and descriptions for a bridge Custom Custom and a neck Alnico 2 pro.
Or a JB bridge and a Jazz neck. But are these descriptions for Les Paul solids.
Coil splitting. Please help, must pre-order and stick with results. Must get it right first time. Opinions please. covered or not?
I Would Suggest The Custom Custom And Jazz Neck, You Can Always Change The Magnets On Either To Change The Overall Tone. The Jazz Has Great Cleans And If You Turn Up The Distortion There Not Bad (look Up Jolly's Clips) And The Cc Is Nice And Beefy With Lots Of Presence But With A Magbnet Change Can Go From Mellow To Screaming. My Ignorant .02 Cents Chris
i'd say that your inclinations for the CCb and AIIPn seem reasonable ... a set of seths or ants are surely a no brainer ... not sure i'd go JBb/JAZZn ... if you are unsure about coil splitting, etc i'd recommend that you be certain that anything you order has the 4-wire option .. you can always just tape off the red/white and ignore it, but you can't add 'em too easily after the fact ... covers are a matter of cosmetic taste .. you either like em 'on or not ...
good luck

I'd go for a jazz neck amp; a JB bridge - awesome combo

Great combo, not too over the top output wise, and the CC can really sound nice clean. A2P's are great in and of them selves in either position. The thing is just follow your ears. Listen to the sound clips till your ears bleed then do it again.
For less oomph in the bridge I'd look into the PG, or A2P.
Luke
So the soundclips (the ones on the specs amp; things on the SD site) are good for reference? I see that there's a pic of a 335 style guitar, but the heading on the humbucker page says quot;pickups for les paulsquot;
Hope i don't have feedback issues like the guy with the Ibanez artcore who fitted a CC in bridge (JTM) I occasionally like some dirty high gain grind...
As for splitting, i'll probably replace all the wiring and pots to good fender pots, with the tones going as push-pull splitters. I was thinking this is the best way, as i can combine one split and one full when in the middle toggle position. Unles there's a better more flexible method..
So pups don't come with covers? I dont mind going coverless black bobbined.
I'll give em a good listening off the site....
i'd say a 59 set or seths or A2P's
I like your thinking: Alnico 2 HB neck and Custom Custom bridge. I use a similar combo in my semi hollowbody Hamer Monoco Super Pro and could not be happier. My Monoco came with a nickel covered CC so I went with a nickel covered neck pickup: the Seth Lover. But the Alnico 2 Pro HB would sound just as nice, IMO. I really like the Jazz neck but I wouldn't pair it with an alnico 2 bridge humbucker because the alnico 5 Jazz neck might have more bass than the alnico 2 CC and you might have a hard time finding one volume and tone setting on your amp that works well with both types of pickups. I'd go for two alnico 2 pickups myself. Lew
IMHO i'd go for the A2 Pro and CC (A2 mag) if you like a hotter bridge pup and the versatility of coil splits.
Otherwise for a vintage vibe i'd go for Seths.
My experience is that 335-style guitars work better with A2 pickups. Very sweet and responsive.
A5 pickups like the Jazz/59/JB can sometimes be overly bright in maple body guitar like yours.

There is where Lew's point of view and mine diverge, I think A5 in the neck and A2 in the bridge actually sounds great, but I'm weird like that. However I definitely see where he is coming from.

Actually Luke, you're one of the guys here who before I read thier post, I just assume I'm going to agree with the advice that's going to be given.
Same thing with Robert_S, Christian (TGWIF), John (Stratdeluxer), Rob (Gearjoneser) and a few others. Thanks guys - I'll brew up my decision, er, brew...and order up the results. Then hopefully before the season ends, I'll have new pups. You guys in the Northern Hemisphere are spoilt for choice and speedy turnaround (and better prices by far). But we have sunny Christmas instead.
Thanks again all....
