I bought a custom custom pickup about a year ago. At the time I didn't have a good amp so I couldn't test it at high volumes. I've just purchased an 6505 and was testing it out and this pickup has huge microphonics happening, and is also kinda noisy even while playing. At first I figured it's gotta to be the amp settings, maybe a cord etc. I swapped the custom pickup with a JB model and everything improved dramatically. Is it possible this pickup is damaged? Or is it a potting problem? Also, I'm not sure how Sd will help me because it's warranty is probably up, and I don't think I should have to pot my own pickup at the risk of damaging it. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Most problems with microphonic humbucking pickups are related to the pickup having a nickel cover that's resonating. It's fairly rare to get a squeeling from an uncovered humbucker but it can happen. I'd tighten the four screws under the pickup or check to see if something's loose. The pickup probably has already been wax potted, but maybe repotting it would be a good idea if all else fails. Lew

I don't think the CC has a cover does it Lew?

It might be worth checking that the bobbin screws haven't come loose and are allowing the baseplate to resonate, I've seen that cause problems.

Its available with a cover but its not common. I think this may be somewhat related to the insane amount of gain that amp has. Likely it is significantly more than what the other amp had. Combined with the big mid hump that pup has is causing a little feedback.

I'm taking the guitar apart tonight and will check out the pickup. Thanks for the advice.
