It says in the description that it has quot;a custom designed pickup built by Seymour himselfquot; and quot;special wiringquot;. Anybody know what's different about the pickup and wiring in this guitar?

I would venture a guess that it uses the Custom Shop Alnico 2 Tele Hot Tapped...but I don't know for sure. I do know that when I ordered my pickup like that from MJ she asked me if I'd played Seymour's Esquire. She said the pickup I was ordering was the same pickup Seymour used in that guitar.
Lew:
You're pretty much right on the money. Here's the three-way switch tones:
Bridge-most Position: Full output of pickup. Fatter Fuller Sounding.
Middle Position: Inner coil only (1st tap). Brighter Sounding.
Neck-most Position: Inner coil only (1st tap) with tone capacitor to ground. (Warmer Sound).
I hope that helps.

I remember asking Evan what an APTL-3JD would sound like with alnico 5 magnets. He told me it would be similar to an STL-2. So, is the Alnico 2 Hot Tapped Model close to the APTL-3JD?
I've always found it majorly ironic that the founder of the biggest pickup company would make his signature guitar a 1 pickup model. And the more I think about it, the cooler it is. Kinda like a famous fashion designer showing up to his runway shows wearing a T shirt and jeans!

Esquires have a cool tone! And since all Strat and Tele pickups pull on the strings magnetically, the fewer pickups the better your strings ring and sustain.
So an Esquire with one pickup actually has a slightly better sound than a Telecaster with two pickups. Because each pickup pulls the strings out of tune a little on a Fender guitar.
IMO, the strings on a Tele sound and sustain a little better than a Strat because it has one less pickup pulling on the strings.
And the strings on an Esquire sound and sustain a little better than a Tele because it has one less pickup pulling on the strings than a Tele.

To my ears, the Jerry Donahue is right between the Alnico 2 Hot Tapped Model's two outputs. The lower output of the A2HT model is similar to an Antiquity I and the higher output is hotter than a Jerry Donahue. Lew

Thanks for the clarification Lew

I bought mine for my Tele but wound up putting it in my Strat! My Strat was routed for a bridge humbucker so I just ordered a pickguard from WD cut for a Tele bridge pickup. Put the CS Tapped Tele Hot and (what else?) a pair of Antiquity II Surfers in it.
Anyways, the outputs of my CS Tapped Tele Hot is 6.6K and 9.5K.
The CS version uses alnico 2 magnets. The stock Tapped Tele Hot uses alnico 5. I really like alnico 2 for bridge single coils: nice plucky, middy, touch sensitive response that compresses nicely when I want to really shape a note with my touch and squeeze it out like toothpaste from a tube.
I think a Tapped Twangbanger Hot version for Strats would be a great new product for to offer. Lew
Lew, when you added that Hot Tapped Tele pickup to your strat, did you keep the Fralin blender pot wiring, then use a mini-switch to utilize the features on the bridge pickup? Or, did you integrate those features into the 5 way, somehow?

-neck
-neck and middle
-neck and bridge
-bridge and middle
-bridge
master volume, master tone and the push pull is the tap on the bridge pup
I know Im not Lew, but...
What's the DC / Ohm specs for each setting please?

This quote should be in the vault! You make a good point Lew! So the DC resistance for full on is the same as the hot...interesting.
I've been thinking about pup options for UGD, a LOT! This type of pup would be awesome but maybe with QP size A2 mags!
