Well, I just got back from the damn guitar center. I had to drive an hour each way to Baton Rouge since the New Orleans one is still closed. Despite telling the dude that I had a ONE HUM CHARVEL, he gave me a damn '59 Neck pickup. I didn't notice until I got home, of course.
The guitar is bright, it is a maple body and I was trying to mellow it out a bit since it has a screaming hot Schaller bar type P/U in it.
I was going for more of a Brown Sound without the $160 custom shop price tag for the '78.
So, has anyone run the '59 neck in the bridge? Will it be too bottom heavy? I am looking for a very warm, fat tone....not the explosive rip your face off tone of the current p/u. I am inclined to try it before I run back to BR, but I have to go out of town next week.....
Any advice, greatly appreciated.
Mike
p.s. still loving my Blues Saraceno!!
I'm actually running a 59'(n) in the bridge of my Les Paul. I really like it. I do find it to be slightly darker than the bridge version, but that is fine with me. I have it matched with an APH in the neck, and I think they match very well.
Slap it in there and see what you think. You may just like it a bunch. If not, and you don't want to drive again, you can use the 21 day exchange and probably just mail it to SD and have them send you the bridge version.
I think you'll like it as is.
