He used a JB/59 for Practice What you Preach and that is what he currently uses - Dimarzio is wrong.
I have the JB in my current guitar and you can hear the Skolnickish tones.

Plenty of people use JBs, can you hear all their-ish tones too?
I always thought the guitar tone on Practice ruined the album, it's awful, even though the music is good.
For thrash metal I'll always go with a Duncan Distortion. The JB might be better with the right rig, but the Distortion is that bit tighter which is so important in thrash.
Can I have your telecaster ? lol
Yeah I think it was a JB

How dare you!?
But seriously, I’ve lusted over Alex’s tone since I was 16 and have tried to emulate its exactness for years. I haven’t been able to nail it yet, but I have a variant and some tonal aspects.
That’s why I say Skolnick-ish - It’s not dead on, but I can definitely hear the similarities now that I have a JB equipped guitar.
I dunno, I've never really got into Testament. quot;Practicequot; was a decent album, but the sound was garbage. quot;Soulsquot; was meh, and anything else I've dipped into has been quot;mehquot; as well.
Is there one particularly great album that shows off both the band and Alex's playing to best effect?
