I might be getting my dad rick 330 soo and i would like to do some changes.
Its is a 2001 or 2002 model and has high gain pickups.
I was wondering how i could make it have more open mids (like a 360V64) and make it less muddy on the neck pickups.
I thought changing the strings to ernie ball (like dad has on his 360) and changing the bass Vol to 500k or 300k to keep more treble. and maybe changing the p.ups to vintage
Lowering the neck pickup will help. The Higain Ric pickups are not all that Higain, slightly more then a Tele sound. Try lowering the pickups first. I prefer the sound of them over the vintage style but I like to play harder music now and then. LOL.
What are the pot values on it now?
James-
I just took my 360-12 to a local Ric guru for a set up, and he spoke at length about how the things are wired (to the point that my head was spinning). You might be able to find some more info here: from : localhost/think there are a few easy wiring mods that might help you out.
Yes the Ric Higain is a bit muddy, but one trick that works great is a treble booster or a SD-1/TS9 with the gain low (most of those kinda pedals have an input cap that strips out some bass).

I have and SD-1 and it strips to much bass and treble and boosts the mids unless u turn the tone up then it adds awful harsh high mids and treble frequencies
