i have an ibanez acoustic that needs a neck cal. real bad, and i thought to myself quot;ok, i successfully did this to my SG, let's do it to the acousticquot;. i did the trick where you press down on the 1st and 13th frets then tap to 6th fret to check for relief, and there was no quot;clickquot; when i tapped the 6th fret. when i eyeballed the neck, i found that it actually has a sufficient amount of backbow (which explains the terrible fret buzz).
when i attempted to loosen the truss rod to create more relief, it didn't want to budge. i've been told not to force it if it won't turn, so i didn't.
are there any tricks or anything i can do to make this work? i won't take it to a tech or spend any money on it because honestly i don't really care and i hardly ever even touch my acoustic. i was just curious to see if i can improve it's playability.
Sometimes when they set the fretboard the truss gets glue on it that can jar it into place.that's something that you should let a reputable tech do.
But you can try loosening the strings for a day and giving the truss another crack,(so to speak),wiggle the key a little. If it still won't go you should take it to a shop.
cool, thanks a lot. i'll give that a try
One other thing if someone says steam it - HIT THEM!!!!!!!!
That will only serve to loosen the glue in the join and the fretboard.

... well, and after the fretboard is loosen he can remove the glue from the trussrod
just joking, only do that if you're really snoopy and the guitar has no value for you.
Are you sure the buzz is from the relief of the neck, and not from a low saddle or high fret?
You could try a little (VERY LITTLE!) penetrating oil or WD-40 applied to the truss rod nut and threads of the truss rod. Rather than spraying it you might want to spray a little into a small container first and then brush or drip it into the threads and the nut. Let it soak in for a bit and then try to turn the nut.
