My completed Boss GE-7 is amazingly quiet...I need to experiment with it more...My questions to you all then?

If I put the GE7 at the input of my stereo Valvetronix head I can retain true stereo coming out of the amp...

If I Put the GE7 into the effects loop,it's going to be very quiet and quot;maybequot; more effective...My amp's output now becomes only mono, but still sounds really good?

What are your all's opinions on getting the best tonal tweaking variations as far as placement of the GE-7?

Also...When you guys place an eq inline with your other effects pedals before the amp's input, where do you place your eq in the chain?I Normally don't need and don't use an eq,but it'll help this amp out further for me..

Thanks all

I only used my GE-7 as a volume and mid boost, so in the FX loop for me.

I've only used the unmodded one I have, and it's way too noisy for the loop. I still think I'd prefer it in front, and if it were me, I'd put it last in my chain. The reason? Why shape my tone or boost it if other pedals are going to affect the signal before it hits the amp. Let the distortion pedals, chorus, flangers, whatever...do their thing, and then either tweak the final signal with the eq, or flat boost it. That's my preference.

I usually use mine to boost the output on single coils....so I usually place it first so I can get the full effect of the buffer as well (I don't use wah).

Other than that, my effects loop is to hot for the GE-7 so I use a rack EQ there instead.

On a side note.....do you think you could mod/refurb one of these?
i only ever used my ge-7 to preshape my guitar tone before anything else in the signal chain ... it was my quot;poor man / 1 guitar ownerquot; way of approximating a single coil guitar sound with a dual humbucker guitar ..

i know, i know, but don't laugh, i was 18 and there was no internet back then to go to for better advice back then ... it worked 'ok-ish' and let me do some fun stuff ... but the hiss was pretty rough

john, it sounds like what you want the EQ for is to shape the total sound a bit .. if the stereo thing isnt a big part of your overall sound, maybe the loop will get it done for ya best

let us know what your experiments come up with
good luck

Great posts as usual from you all...

I always keep mine in the loop. It's quieter and I seem to get better tonal control that way.

Noise ceases to be a problem now after I modded my own GE-7. So far I prefer it in the effects loop...It's part of the amp now instead of being a pedal that colors wrong at the input..

I use mine in front of my amp to cut my signal, not boost it. I use it in front of my distortion, and it adds a dirty but quiet tone to it.
