I'm after some advise on pickup selection to go in my old chavel mod6 h,s,s.The original jackson units seem to have no warmth or power compared to my epi explorer(WHICH ALSO HAS THE ORIGINAL PICKUPS IN!).Both guitars need a transplant but what to put in em?Has anyone got any advise please?
I agree..I had a M6...no warmth..no power....hated those pups..great player though.
Personally I'd prolly go with something beefy....it's a thin sounding guitar in my experience...prolly a 59b or a standard Custom for the bridge....Vintage rails in the middle, and a cool rails or lil 59 in the neck....that way you can get decent strat cluck sounds if ya want them...though with the neck through that will rob some of the strat character
For the Explorer: I'd do a pair of 59's or a Custom in the bridge and 59 neck, which I had in my Explorers...
Those would beef up the guitars a bit and make them pretty versatile.

I am doing the same thing with my 1980's-something Charvel. Mine is Hum/sing/Hum and has a floyd, so I decided on the Custom Custom Bridge, the Alnico Pro Single Coil (APS) and the Alnico Pro Neck. I think this setup will warm up what tends to be a bright (especially w/ the Floyd) and sometimes hollow sounding guitar.
Custom or Duncan Distortion would be good choices for a Charvel. What type of music do you play?
