Okay people, I am debating between three body options for a Warmoth bolt-on LP project:
1. Traditional: mahogany maple top, mahogany neck
2. Korina: korina white korina top, korina neck
3. Chamberino: chambered walnut maple top, mahogany neck
Currently I'm leaning towards option 3. I really want a unique instrument, and the chambered (hollow cavities) body definitely fits the bill in that regard. Walnut is a bright wood for a body, but this should be tempered by the quot;warmingquot; effect of the chambers.
Then again, I have heard great things about korina, and there's something to be said for tradition. What do you geniuses think?
I would use a limba back and neck with a maple top...
Traditional, but with a tummy cut a la ESP eclispe/ec series.
Mmm.... Korina...
LP Bolt-On?
Why not just buy a H-H strat?
Anyway... I'd pick number 3 also, its the most interesting option. Gotta do new things.
1. Traditional, or solid mahogany. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE TUMMY CUT!

It's a long story that I will tell someday soon.
Sorry for being so mysterious.
What if you made a warmoth strat, mahogony body with maple top, Mahogony neck amd used some sort of a fixed bridge... Two humbuckers, etc. How close would this sound to a warmoth Les Paul that would feature basically all the same things?

The tummy cut doesn't seem to be available for Warmoth's LP body. Maybe you're thinking of the Tele body.
In any case, I don't think I want it.

Again, I want a Les Paul body shape. It will all be explained in the near future. Please bear with me
No, I'm not asking you, I understand the LP shape, I too love it. I am wondering how close one (me) could some with similar materials in another shape.

I understand where you're headed. In fact, I've got a carved quot;T-Topquot; body from USA Custom Guitars, 1-piece mahogany w/ 1-piece rock maple cap plus mahogany neck w/ pau ferro fingerboard. Neck is a quot;conversionquot; 24-3/4quot; scale to work with this body.
Why you ask? There's substantially more contact area between the neck and the pocket in a Tele than Warmoth's bolt-on LP. I love the LPS shape, but there's virtually no neck pocket for a bolt-on version. Given the same wood, same thickness w/ carved top, scale length, bridge amp; pup type, 3x3 tiltback headstock, etc. this thing should sound damn close to an LP. Only it will have a 5-position selector switch where my right hand expects to find one, not where they are on LP's.
If only I could find the time to build a spray booth at the new house and put some finish on it, we could get going!
BTW on the original question, the quot;Chamberinoquot; is interesting. Could be a really great guitar, but it won't sound anything like an LP. I think it may be very bright and doubt that Warmoth's chambering (which is nothing like a semi-hollow body) will warm it up at all. After all, even Fender's mahogany Thinline Tele's are they're still quite bright.
Good luck guys!
Chip
Okay, how about this:
4. quot;Korina Chamberinoquot;: chambered korina body, maple top, korina neck.
I vote for Korina body, maple top, rosewood neck
Thanks for the responses so far!

A lot of the LP sound comes from the fact that it's a single cutaway body with a short, stiff neck making it sound fatter than a double cut instrument. I notice this diference even between my '81 Hamer Special and my LP Standard. Even though both have mahogany bodies and neck, fixed bridges, maple tops, and 24.75quot; scale necks, the LP is much fatter sounding.
Oh, as far as what construction, I'd go with a Korina body and topand a maple neck. I've heard too many stories of mahogany bolt on necks stripping their screws, which quite frankly, scares me a bit.

Yikes! That IS scary! Thanks for the tip.
Oh, one more thing: this guitar will be finished in a solid colour, so don't let the appearance of the wood influence your opinion. We're going entirely on tone here.
Thanks!
ALDER!!!!
J/K. I'd probably go traditional myself, but then, I don't have a traditional LP. The korina one would be cool, too.
