Is it the old 5150 or the 5150II? I have the original... Just to recap the basics.. The post volumes should be down and the pre's should be up. There is a Crunch switch on the 5150 that greatly increases the gain... Push it in...

WhoFanits the 5150 212 combo !!
I've used that combo and it was heavy-ass... although someone else sorted the settings for me as i was blind drunk during that gig. So i have no idea about the control lay out or anything sorry.
no idea about the controls on that amp but there's alsways the possiblity to use a distortion/overdrive pedal on the clean channel
thats why i bought this amp !! because you dont need pedals to get rip your fvckin face off metal tone !!!!!!! ok now i just been messing with it and i got the distortion on the (lead pre channel ) i have to put the lead pre on 10 and then control the volume with the (lead post) but it only sound good at low volumes not metal tones more like marshall tones slash type when i go over 2 on the (lead post ) it starts to make this hum loud !!!!!!! i havent been able to crank it because of this !!!!!! can some one give me some settings to get killer metal tone? please!!!!!
As you turn the master volume up try turning the preamp gain down.
Also, make sure you're using good quality cables.
what kind of pickups are you using?
Don't turn the ****ing gain to 10, you dumb****!
Keep it on like 4!!! Then crank the Lead Post!

i know that sir!!!
This will probably sound very stupid, but do you have your guitar volume up all the way? If you don't, that's why you're not getting any distortion. This probably isn't the case, but just thought I'd check.

its all the way up !!! i already got the distortion !!! its just when i crank the lead post starts to quot;humquot; some static !! like im not playing, im muting the strings and i hear it !!
No offense here, but does anyone find it funny that someone with the LambOfGod handle can't get gain out of thier amp? Seriously, just kidding around.
I haven't used that amp, but looking at the online manual it looks like you should be in the High Gain input (weird design, IMO) and make sure the channel button is pushed in for the Lead channel. Crank the Lead Pre Gain knob all the way up and use the Lead Post Gain to control the overall volume. This should give you as much gain as this amp can give with your guitar.
Good luck!
Mike
In regards to the hum....when you use lots of gain a lot of noise comes with it. Some amps more than others, but all that gain is amplifying the noise as well. This is pretty normal with most middle of the road amps. Some really high-end amps keep this noise down pretty well even at ultra high gain settings...

Hahaha! You'll be rocking in no time!
I'm sure Rip Glitter can help you out. quot; For ripping metal tone, the only knob you need to concern yourself with is GAIN......turn it on 10, and snap it off with a hammer!quot; hahaha
