I found this page when I got bored and looked up some stuff. If you don't like reading a bunch of stuff and know about capacitors, you can skip to the fifth paragraph.

from : localhost/noticed that the author states that gibson uses a poly-film dielectric in their quot;historicquot; tone caps. Does this mean that they made a fancy looking orange drop?

I thought my R7 and R8 have both paper'n oil sprague bumblebee looking caps, not orange drops. Maybe they are sprague BB's I dunno, and I don't care. I am happy with them.

Am reading the link right now. Thanks for the info!

On the reissue bumble bees the dielectric material we ended up going with was a poly film that exhibited the same properties as the craft paper did. This decision was made based on numbers and manufacturing issues. It is simple math, if one material conducts at a certain rate then if you find another comparable material and make the necessary adjustments be it in size, thickness, or turns the you end up with the same desired result. On the first samples they sent me they were plain without the shell just the foil and leads showing so that I could approve the construction. Next came the outside shell with the color bands and tool marks. Finally came the finished part.

Looks that you are right. Fancy poly orange drops. Remember having read something about this on the LPF.
