Well, I FINALLY got it in... My Lil 59 was in the maiilbox waiting on me... I drove to the nearest city with music stores (1hr drive) and only one of them had a 500K Push-Pull pot.... At any rate, I have the operating room prepared, and the iron is HOT... But I have a few questions.....

1) In the schematic listed as Lil HB 2SC 1 VOL 2 TONE with Mod, there are 2 caps beeing used... One for each pot... Since I am not actually doing this mod, but using the push-pull to split, will I need to wire the tone pots like this?

2) The purpose of using the push pull is so that when in #5 I can push the pot in and get full on HB, pull it out and get SC, and with it out, I can still get Quack in #4... Which coil would I want to be engaged by itself for the best tones, and how would I wire to get those results.... I have a schematic that shows how to do the push-pull pot, I am just wondering if it will control the right sides of the HB.... Excuse the ignorance, I am still learning!

Any help will be sincerely appreciated.... Thanks in advance,
Allen

Hey Allen; can you link to that diagram. I don't seem to be able to find it.

Ok, I think you're talking about this one:

If thats it, just don't connect the red/white combo to the 5-way. Connect it to the middle lug of one side of the push/pull pot switch. Then, just connect the top lug to either ground, or that pups hot wire to select one coil or the other. You'll almost have to try both to see which way is hum-cancelling. I think I'd start with ground.

Sorry, it says split instead of mod.... but here it is...

Here is a rundown... I am trying to learn as I go, not just simply plug n play, but I still am not confident in my own trial and error approach just yet...

#1 Neck controlled by T1(Normal)
#2 Neck/Mid T1 (Normal)
#3 Mid T1 (normal)
#4 Mid T1/ Bridge split controlled by T2
#5 Bridge HB full on controlled by T2

Heh . . . I guessed the right one, and editted my post while you were posting.

One sec . . .

Ok, the bottom tone control, (top dark gray wire), would move up one lug to the black wire of the bridge pup. The top tone control, (bottom dark gray wire), would connect to where it is now, plus to where the other dark gray wire was. (The terminal right above it.)

Does that make sense?

And one little thing, you won't be able to avoid having both tone controls active in the #4 position.

Now, that makes sense... Complete sense... So I just run a jumper for the T1 connection to control the N/M pups.... I didn realize that I couldnt have both tones controls available in #4... 1 for the bridge tone, and 1 for the middle tone... If that is the case, then I mightl just go with the spin-a-split and have them ALL run on the T1 connection... In that case, I would jump the Top Right, the next one down, and the next one down connected to the T1 pot?....

Thanks again, Artie, you always seem to come through for me...

Actually, its the opposite. You will have both tone controls in the #4 position, which I personally wouldn't care for. If you want to do just one tone control, skip the 5-way all together. Just connect that tone controls dark gray wire to somewhere on that dark gray wire on the far right. Either to the middle lug of the volume control, or straight to the hot of the output jack. Whichever is more convenient.

That will, by the way, constitute the quot;50's modquot;. Connect the tone control to the end light gray wire of the volume control for a conventional tone control.

I am starting to figure this out, of course, with your help... So, if I wanted T1 to be the control for all pups, I take that wire and run it to the middle lug of the volume?

BTW, with the wire straight into the lug, where would the cap go?

One lug of the tone pot would go to the middle lug of the volume control. The other lug would connect to the cap, and the other end of the cap, to ground.

Got it...duh... Just had a brain fart....

Thanks again...
Allen

Alrighty... Thanks for the help.. I have it all wired correctly, and lucked up with the noise cancelling... It is dialed in just right, and I LOVE the spin-a-split modd... So much more useful than the Push-Pull knob... I have gotten used to having only 1 tone knob rather quickly, and dont miss the other one, at all!!

Thanks again for the help!

Allen

Cool. So, when you use the spin-a-split, does it actually sound like the pup morphs from a humbucker to a single coil?

Yeah, but the noticeable difference doesnt really come til around 3-4.... Is that on account of the 500K pot... If I put in a 250k, will that tighten the response from the mod? Also, am I correct in assuming that a no-load pot will quot;disappearquot; from the circuit at quot;10quot;?

Thanks again, Artie!
