i was thinking about building a guitar using an asian alder neck with a rose wood fretboard and a basswood body dose anybody now the charictaristics of these woods (ecspesaly the alder neck) and how theyl interact with each other i think eric clapton and jeff beck strats come with alder necks but im not sure thanx
Is alder strong enough to build a neck out of? I don't think so... The Clapton and Beck strats have maple necks.
A Basswood body, maple neck and rosewood fingerboard are pretty classic Super Strat combos, and more recently in Strats. However I think that if you are interested in Clapton and Beck you might be looking for an Alder body, when I think of strat tone, I think of Alder bodies.
The only company I know of using tone woods for necks is Genesis and maybe Parker, but Parker uses a carbon exoskeleton on their necks. Check those out to get ideas.
AN alder neck on an electric won´t hold up very long... use maple
Carvin uses Alder on their Holdsworth neck- but it's also a very thick neck with graphite stabilizer rods inside. Parker uses a basswood neck, and again, uses graphite rods to further stabilize the neck. Unless you custom order the neck with a double expandable truss ross and graphite reinforecment rods I wouldn't try it
Alder Neck not recomedned. And Yes if you are looking at Calpton and beck the classic set up is the best alder body maple neck
