Currently my H1 blue strat is setup basically as a hardtail strat in that it has 5 springs and the claw is screwed in as tightly as possible into the body....I'm thinking I'd like to use the vintage bridge on this axe now and use the vibrato system in a nice David Gilmour/RID subtle way....

I had 3 springs on it originally with the the 3 inner claws being used and then the extreme outer and 1 center hole used on the bridge...I use D'Addario .010s and I'm wondering how many springs you guys use or prefer? I guess I'm leaning towards 4,but maybe 3 and that's where you guys come in?

Mine will float off the body say about 3/32quot; measured from the rear of the bridge to the body top....

John,

I have a Callaham with 3 springs, and I'm thinking about going to 4 for more stability
if it's vintage style, I think the stock measurement is 1/8quot; off the body BTW, but as you know that's personal taste

the screws in back will probably be about 1/2 - 3/4quot; (I think)

mine came back from my tech with the trem down on the body, but I found I'm just used to floating, so I reset it ... you'll probably find you have to go back and forth with some of the adjustments, and maybe do a slight turn on the truss rod

I'd try three springs first and see if you dig the tension it provides. With four springs there's a lotta' tension on the bar and I found it was hard to use. My
Floyd guitar is set up with three springs straight from the trem block to the claw, using the inner mounts on the claw gives a little less tension...but I dunno...there's a real fine line between having an expressive bar amp; keeping chords and double stop bends in tune.

RID subtle way

haha I pull mine one whole step and half step up
That is what I mostly use it for on that strat, I always use two springs, relativly hard tensions ones, I don't like three or more on trems.

Yes 3/32quot; and 1/8quot; are both specs I've seen....Basically I Like the back of the bridge straight across with no forward leaning when it's adjusted and that's normally around 3/32quot;........1/8quot; is just a bit too much lean formy tastes actually....I normally don't pull up on the bar much and if I do,it's very very subtle movement...

Thought you might like having your name mentioned along with Gilmour buddy?
