i am the proud owner of a new set of antiquity humbuckers.i have a few questions if any of you can help.they are going in my gibson les paul classic.i am replacing the stock pickups because i want the vintage les paul sound.i think the antiquitys should give me that in spades.what other mods do i need to make to get every ounce of tone from these pickups.i have already replaced the tail piece with a reissue aluminum piece.i know there is company that sell pot upgrade kits, but i cant remeber the name of the company.do i need to replace the stock pots and caps?my last question is can someone give a ball park estimate of where i should set the pickup height....thanx
I remember a similar thread over at the Les Paul Forum, do a search for the user name quot;lostdogquot;, he did almost exactly the same with his guitar (used Wagner pickups though). Of course there are a lot of other threads with the same topic, too.

If you have a meter, test that the volume pots and tone pots register 500K Ohms. I would put in a .015 cap in the neck and a .022 in for the bridge. I like the '50's wiring mod. I would set the neck PU at 3/32quot;, (as measured from the bottom of the high and low E strings to the top of the pole pieces - while fretting the string at the last fret). I would set the bridge at 2/32quot; following the same method. That should do it. From there it is all about the playing.

I am going to disagree with the above post ever so slightly, i think there should be a .022 cap on each and 500 k pots for both volumes and tones. the 50's mod is up to you. i tend to keep my pickups slightly lower than that and match the radius of the neck with the adjustable pole pieces.
try and get some sprauge orange drop caps, and not the ceramic disk caps
Look at RS Guitarworks for the electronics upgrade kits.

.022 is traditional, I have found that putting in .015 gives some additional highs and clarity to the neck PU. You can always roll down the treble. Just a personal preference. .022 is the standard for humbuckers.

I use my Antiquity's with the standard pots at the moment, and I could not be happier with the result. I am however considering buying the kit from RS Guitarworks, as I have heard and read quite a few good reviews of it.
I don't care for the RS kits. Get 4 500k CTS audio taper pots and 2 .02 Sprauge orange drop caps. Thats all you really need and that stuff will be cheaper than the RS stuff.
As for wiring, I prefer the current production wiring over the 50s and RS wirings for a couple of reasons including having master volume control from both volume pots in the mid position and minor bleed through issues and i have never heard a major difference in tone with any of the wiring variations. Once you have deceint components (CTS/Sprauge) changing the wiring is simple.
thanx for the help guys....
