Never messed with single coils much. I have a HSS alder bodied guitar. I have a JB in the bridge. I have a few questions.
1. How close are the noisless single coils to normal single coils?
2. I do not care about the neck single coild matching the JB what noiseless would be good for articulate but warm bluesy type stuff. I will use it for cleans rhythm and solo and some distorted leads and rhythm.
thanks.
Any brand will work. I know my demands were pretty broad. I just want something that sounds good and pretty clean.
It depends on the noiseless singles you're talking about. The Fender noiseless pu's I've tried just don't cut it for me. I've never tried any Duncan stacks (noiseless) but have tried DiMarzios (not bad) and Kinmans (expensive but terrific and well worth it).
Of course, unless you're doing a lot of sessions in the studio that really require zero 60-cycle hum, then you may not need noiseless single coils if you're playing primarily clean with them.
i like the classic stacks alot, especially in the neck. dont really like any of the fender offerings
of the dimarzios i like the virtuAL2 best but i replaced those with the classic stacks and like the stacks better. both are dead quiet.
kinmans are very vintagy but too bright for my tastes. i like the warm alnico II type of single coil tone, if you like the brighter side of the fence then kinmans might work for you.
having said all that if you want the best old school strat tone try the antiquitys either the texas hots if you like the warmer side or the surfers if you like the brighter side. the complexity of the tone that you get with a true hand wound single coil cant be touched by ANY noiseless pup ive ever tried. if tone is the number one concern try the antiquitys, if noiseless operation is of high importance then a stack is a good bet

Jeremy, would you care to comment on other options such as the vintage rails or duck-bucker? I’m seeking the closest approximation of an SSL-1 without the 60 cycle.
Thanks so much everybody.
So the stacks will sound pretty quot;strat-likequot;?
