Theres a pickup in the Custom Shop called El Diablo, according to Scott Ian, its a Screamin' Demon wound a bit hotter and will rails instead of poles. How much hotter is it? What affect does the rails have on the tone? makes it have more presence maybe? I dunno ive never had a guitar with a pickup that used rails. Anyways, how different do they sound and feel etc.? Anyone know?
Thanks,
Max
rails don't really affect tone IMO, they just eliminate any volume drop you would otherwise get if you pull off a huge bend..
all EMGs are rail magnets.. i've owned hotrails and an L-500XL as well, they're good if you're constantly putting them in different axes as well, because it dosen't matter about regular or trembucker spacing..
and this el diablo sounds like a hell of a pickup - mebbe a tiny step too far removed from tradition PAF to me though..
tom
first off scott ian has 2 custom shop pickups 1 is a hot rodded screamin demon and the other one is 21 k twin rail pick up .
i own and use in my main guitar the el diablo and it looks just like a screamin demon (no rails) mine is 14.5k /alnico 5 magnet/ 5.5k peak it is trem spaced to me it sounds like a screamin demon with the drive of a JB it sings like a JB and has a little less of that high high of the demon all in all it is my favorite pickup and i am glad i got it THANKS M J !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
one of these days ill order the rails one. my birthdays in the summer, maybe then

Well, either you are right, or Scott Ian is right. The first post's description was paraphrased from a Guitar World interview with him.

Sorry dude, I didn't mean that offensively. The interview was from '03, with Metallica on the cover.
Aren;t there 2, the Diablo and the El Diablo?
