Does anybody make humbucker sized adapters for mini humbuckers? I'd like to try a mini in the neck of my 1980 Artist, but it has a full sized HB slot there. The recent single coil adapter thread made me wonder if someone makes a mini humbucker adapter.

never seen one but i bet you could make something from some pick guard material

I was hankering after a minihumbucker to go in my Dot, but I couldn't find anyone who did such a thing, and I don't have anything like the know-how to do it myself. Maybe Seymour would do one in the custom shop, but that would be out of my price range - hence the '59...

I have a 2HB guitar with minis - I simply mounted the minis inside full-size humbucker covers. Allparts sells covers without holes in chrome, gold, and nickel. Winds up looking like a pair of Iommis.

I've done the same thing with Tele pickups - I have one of the Korean setneck mahogany Teles with a Broadcaster/Twang King set, also mounted in the Allparts covers.

Hi AdmiralB,

would you happen to have photos of those 2 guitars. I embracing a similar project, that is to install a mini-hum in the neck position of an telecaster.

thanks.

the mini mounting rings inside of regular hummer rings is a great idea..

has SD ever made a full size hummer that is voiced like a mini? as a huge fan of minibuckers I would love to see this .. sorta like the p-90 in a hummer size trip ..

Hadn't noticed the mounting screw dimensions are about the same size, ~2.9quot; for the mini, ~3.0quot; for the full size. Do you take the mini's cover off and re-pot the pickup with a full size HB cover? -if so, how do you attach the full sized cover to the mini's baseplate?

Hey Orbiter, Duncan has never made anything like it, but TV Jones makes the TV 'tron. Mini's always reminded me a bit of the Filter'tron sound, and that's what the TV'trons emulate. And they fit perfectly in a humbucker rout.

thanks for the tip.. I've read/heard tons about em but never tried the filtertron .. I will check it out!

sorry for the hijack ~G

I have seen quot;adapter ringsquot; they slip around a Mini bucker AND the mini bucker ring to make one very large ring that fits in a full size bucker hole and fits a mini...Gibson actually used some of them in the middle and late 70's but I have only seen a few sets.

I didn't take the mini covers off - on Firebird-style minis, the cover is what holds the pickup together. I just bent the mini ears out slightly, notched the sides of the humbucker cover (it was taller than the mini) and dropped the mini into it. I used a few spots of RTV between the top of the mini and the new cover to prevent any microphonics, then soldered the ears to the new cover at the sides.

I don't have a pic but will take one tonight if I remember.

FWIW I have TVTrons in another guitar. They sound WAY more like P90s than minis.
