I've got a Charvel 475xl and I am installing new pickups. Its an H/S/S style guitar with 5 way switch. The Cruiser neck, HS-2 middle and EVO 2 bridge. On the Cruiser pickup package it reads, quot;IMPORTANT NOTE, This pickup is in phase with our full size humbuckers, but not with most single coil pickups, nor with our HS series pickups. To be in phase with this type of pickup, make the Green wire hot, and the Red wire ground.quot; This sounds like I need to actually make the HS-2 out of phase with the Cruiser and the EVO 2. Otherwise the HS-2 will be out of phase with the EVO 2 when these two pickups are selected and in phase when the Cruiser and HS-2 are selected? Am I correct on wiring the Cruiser normal then HS-2 out of phase then EVO 2 normal?
Thank you for the help,
Jason
Ya i would switch the wires on the HS2.... The HS 2 is in phase for Strat pickups and not Humbuckers and it's the easiest to switch around on your pickup layout ..... I have a HS2 and i was not that much of a fan of it.. thought it was lifeless. It was feeling and sounding underpowered with a set of Dimarzio PAF Pro's in the neck and bridge with the HS2 in the center.... I have taken it out and threw an old Lace Sensor in that middle slot.. It works for that guitar much better!

If you want to increase the output amp; improve the sound of this pickup a bit, and don't use it by itself, you can use the red amp; black wires, giving you only the top (active) coil. This is a common trick with these, but you need to extend the black wire; they're short.

I hear Eric Johnson uses HS2's like this.....??? Red is live and black goes to the back of the pot?
I got the guitar all wired up and used the green wire as the hot one for HS-2. Then used the Red wires for the EVO2 and Cruiser. I'm having trouble now with the HS-2 and Crusier pickups, as I roll the volume on the guitar on they have this high pitched squeel under distortion but the EVO 2 is quiet. So I'm not really sure whats that all about.
I wonder if I have one of the pickups in backwards? Maybe a ground or something?

I THINK that's where I originally got the idea. I'm sure now he uses whatever's in his signature axe.
Yes, that's the normal DiMarzio wiring, but it depends on whatever else is in your guitar.
