In the next days i'm gonna quot;restorequot; my strat in it's usual shape with 3 single-coils, almost wired traditionally.
But i still like to have 2 additional sounds without changing the look.
one master volume, one master tone pot and one blender (NO-load-tone) pot for mixing neck amp; bridge together in parallel.
So far, i know how to wire this.
But then i'd like to know if it's also possible to use middle amp; bridge in series if i mod one pot, without sacrificing the 3rd position for the middle pickup alone?
I think it would be an option if i use a separate volume knob for the middle pickup and wire it in series with the 5 way switch or so. But this means a 4th knob...
I have this idea, how to use ONE pot, but not if this is possible:
What about using a TBX-pot? one half could work as blender mod (at 10) and one maybe as series mod (at 0). In the middle (5) it would do nothing.
But how to wire, if this could work?
Another Idea: a TBX pot which works half a master tone and half as blender pot, and another pot which works for the series mod.
Or this:
Using an allparts megaswitch, the first pole is wired standard, then switching to the 2nd-4th poles wich are wired with this mods.
So i would have the 5way wired standard, then use a switch and i would have quot;anotherquot; 5-way switching. If possible this quot;switchingquot; should work with a pot.
Hope you understood this. It's hard to explain.
If I'm understanding you correctly, you could simply replace either the volume or one of the tone pots with a push/pull pot, which could be wired to give you two pickups in series when pulled up.

Yup. That was my first thought too. Otherwise, I'll have to think on this one a bit.
Edit: One more thing, I'm don't really follow what you mean here:Originally Posted by Inge Malmstein. . .i'd like to know if it's also possible to use middle amp; bridge in series if i mod one pot . . .
I'm not really understanding how you mean to make a series connection with a pot.
Edit 2: Nevermind. I just figured out how to do a series connection with a pot.
Well, i also have an idea (not if this works) how i could do a series mod with a pot
(The same way how to split a humbucker with a tone pot - this is vice versa)
But not how to keep the middle single coil as usual in pos. 3.
I just doodled this up quick amp; dirty, but it seems like it should work:With the neck pot wiper all the way down, you have normal Strat operation. As you bring it up, you dial-in the middle pup in series. (When the neck is selected on the 5-way.)
The onle quot;catchquot; is, you have to be careful about that pot's value. You'ld probably want at least a 1 meg. That resistance will be in parallel with the middle pup in the #3 position. Its not a big deal, but it will act like an additional quot;volume control loadquot;.
Can't gaurantee it'll work like planned, but it might be worth trying.
Edit: The quot;added-loadquot; problem might be solved by making that a no-load pot. I'll have to mess with that to make sure.
Edit 2: Nope. That won't work. Can't use a no-load pot in this application.
