I put 2 Alnico 2's in my les Paul and I'm not happy, they're not really versatil enough for my taste. I wanted to know what your opinions are about the most versatile pickup combo to go into an Epi Les Paul. It'll be leaning more towards hard rock and metal, but I would still like to have a nice clean sound especially in the neck for times when I wanna play something along the lines of Hendrix. I don't hvae any effects except for a wah and i use a Marshall AVT100.
JB bridge, Jazz neck
or
Jb bridge 59 neck.
59N with an A5 Hybrid 59B/Custom in the bridge...
C5b/59n i don't have them in a LP put they sound great in my schecter.
Custom/Jazz covers from jazz to metal. Not so good for blues stuff.

The 59N and JB is also excellant for players who favor overdriven tone and aren't looking for pristine clean or sparkling cleans.
But if you are, just replace each tone pot with a push/pull tone pot so you can split each pickup into a single coil individually. The 59N/JB set or Jazz/JB set both sound great that way and there are alot of combinations that can done:
Neck humbucker
Neck Single
Neck humbucker amp; Bridge humbucker
Neck humbucker amp; Bridge single
Neck single amp; Bridge humbucker
Neck single amp; Bridge single
Bridge humbucker
Brideg single
That's 8 tones, not counting the various shades you can make by using your volume controls to blend pickups together.
The 59N or Jazz N and a Custom is also very popular in a Les Paul and gets great split tones too.
But the 59N and JB are my two faves for splitting.
