I've been really silly gt; gt; I bought a Dimarzio Fred (on ebay v v v cheap $38.00!!)
Just wondering if anybody has used it as a neck pickup and how it sounds.
Or should I just exchange it for a SD '59 / Jazz and be done with it???
Trelf :
I like the Fred actually. Had it in a Strat a few years back. Little more midrange and a little bit more powerful than a PAF.
I have never tried it in the neck position, but my guess is that it would be a little muddy. If you try it please let us know, ok?
I'm planning on installing it into a les paul classic ( I already have a Seymour JB in the bridge)
Mmmm silly???!!!
i don't think so... If you have it just try it. You may love it or hate it but I don't think it's a bad pickup from start. It seems that Fred has been desing to be installed in strat type of guitars (I am guessing from the Joe Satriany guitar model). But that doesn't mean it won't work on your LesPaul.
In the Dimarzio web page Fred it's described as a bright pickup and can be used as a neck. I think you can have a pretty nice distotion set in your Axe!!
A split switch can be a cool option too!!
hehe one thing i love about this forum is that everyones pretty open to try other brands, depending on what the sound is like.. its a credit to SD that they always come back
let us know how you like it man, i've heard mixed reviews of the FRED, and it'll be cool to hear an impartial view on it!
tom
The pickup is coming from Arizona (I'm in the UK) so gt;gt; as soon as I get it I will let you lot know.
Thanks for the advice guys gt;gt; I'll give it a go gt;gt; Can't be any worst than the pickup in the neck position at the moment!!!! (ceramic gibbo unit)
