I had been reading a lot of threads concerning what kind of wood should be used on guitars. A lot of folks chimed in and made suggestions based on their personal experience and taste. I am trying to find out exactly what kind of characteristics and properties of a certain kind of wood that have people make them the material of choice. I don't doubt people's experience about their guitars, it is properly true for them, but I'd like to get some facts about the woods like alder, poplar and agathis, not suggestions. Does any body have any info on these woods or knows where to get info about them?
you probably need to specify what type of guitar you are talking about
This is what Warmoth has to say about it:

i was thinking more along the lines of strat or les paul tye question but whatever
I've never heard anything all that good about Agathis. It's akin to playing a stiff dead fish in terms of resonance.
