Hey you guys whatsup, i want to change my floyd rose unit that came with my ibanez axe for an original floyd rose pro, but i have notice that not all the nut are the same size, there are like 4 or 5 sizes. my question is how can i measure my axe nut ???
thanx for any info, ROCK ON !!! JJ

First thing you need to do is make sure you can swap trems without any problem. Some of those Ibanez trems are designed differently from an original Floyd, and you can't interchange the two very easily. The nut should have a code on the bottom, usually either R2, R3, or R4. R2 is 1 5/8, R3 is 1 11/16, and R4 is 1 3/4. If there is no code on the nut bottom, use a ruler to measure the width of the fretboard at the nut. Most likely, it's either 1 5/8 or 1 11/16.

well i have a Peavey with a licesend floyd, which i like very much coz it always stays in tune, so i swap the trem to the ibanez and it fit just right and it stayed in tune just right too.
to check the nut i`m guessin` that i have to take off the nut of the guitar and see below it ??? right.
the size is in inches ??

Actually, I have 2 guitars that have 1-3/4quot; nut width, and they are R5

The sizes go:
R2 For 1-5/8quot; Nut width
R3 For 1-11/16quot; Nut width Narrow
R4 For 1-11/16quot; Nut width Wide
R5 For 1-3/4quot; Nut width

Actually the difference between R3 and R4 is the string spacing, because some people simply like them a bit (I think .5 mm on the R3) closer together. Both spacings should work fine on bound necks, especially if it´s a guitar w/o nibs. He phgysical width of the nuts is identical, 1 11/16quot;. If it WERE that way, it also seems logical that R3 would be for bound necks, and R4 for Unbound, as the R3 is the one w/ hte tighter spacing....

BTW: Only the ORIGINAL Schaller made nuts have an R-code on them. Ibanez, Gotoh and most cheapos don´t have this code, here you need a set of calipers to measure how wide the neck is.

And the Floyd rose PRO (the low-profile one) is NOT a drop in replacement for any trem. He routs and IIRC post-spacing spacing are different, it WILL require the guitar to be modified. An OFR won´t require as much modification, usually just switch the posts out and your ready to go

Have you done something like that... so is much easy to swap and OFR than the PRO, i guess that the PRO version is wider ? maybe before buying something i will print the routing diagrams and compare it with the guitar.
I havent buy anything yet... but i will.
