Itar, wax potting is emersing the pup in wax to decrease microphonics caused by mechanical noise.
Flitz, or Brasso cleans any metal well. Flitz is available in sporting goods stores, and Brasso at your local supermarket.
Another thing you could try is chrome polish and rust remover for cars, turtle wax brand comes to mind.
