Man this thing is amazing. Jazz, blues, rock, metal. I'm really suprised how well it does metal. More than enough gain. People complained about it being muddy with the pre above 7 on H.C. It is... Unless you turn the post up to around 4, then it really clears up and just roars. Really crunchy too! Might need a boost for shred or metal leads.

On the clean channel I didn't take it above 4 or somewhere around there because it was getting really loud for my ears and my bedroom. It had a cool blues clean sound and I was really going away on the Evo. To protect my oh so wonderful hearing I turned it down to about 3 to try some jazz. Great percussive comping and great rich, toneful lead sound.

This is not in any way a full review I'm still not over how good it sounds though, and this amp's going to be hard to top! Maybe most of the family will go see a movie tonight and I'll take it into the living room and really turn it up Very cool, glad you like it. Mine's been the one constant in my rig for over ten years. I've changed a lot of things in my other (high gain) setup but for playing rock, blues, jazz etc., I'd have to spend a ton to better the Peavey. Lately it's been a blast trying to get Eric Johnson and Robben Ford tones from my strat. Granted I'm not nailing it but I laugh at how close it is just plugged straight in.

I think they sound great at low bedroom volumes for a tube amp. Wait 'til you play with a drummer, it's amazing how much air they will push. I've always wanted to play with tubes and replace the speaker with a G12H30, but always find other stuff to spend money on cuz the amp sounds pretty darn good stock. Enjoy!!!

I absolutely love mine. Great bang for the buck. I replaced the speaker with a Celestion G12H30 and the tubes with JJ's from Eurotubes and it really rounded it out and gave it a more quot;fullquot; sound for lack of a better word. I mostly play at a loud bedroom level or small gigs or jams and mine is just a beast. I did experience some of the tube rattle that seems to be common on the C30's so I got one of those tube tamers off of ebay and that did the trick. It's a great little invention by somebody that plays a Peavey Classic and had the same problem. I also added a tube guard but I think with all my mods I'm still under $400 and it does everyhting I want it to, so I can concentrate all of my GAS on guitars.

Very cool! Glad to hear it YJM
I always recommend that amp to people who want tone, versatility and value. I might pick one up for myself

I’m in the process of re-tubing my old C30 at present, as it has lost a lot of high end in recent weeks. The new JJ 12AX7s have improved the overdrive, yet I am waiting on the EL84s to remedy the brightness issue.

I have a classic 50 and love it. I love playing steve vai style stuff *cross between a bunch of rock genre's with shred thrown in*

Its perfect with my EMG's for my style.Set your pre-10 post-6 bass-10 mid-10 trebble-6 and play around 10 on the master volume. I nail something like a Van halen/Marshall tone with that setup. Of course 10 will be much quieter on the 30.I don't see what the big deal about the cleans are, its just cleans... They distort SOO nice, natrualy tho, great for AC/DC.

that will more than likely be the amp i buy in the next month. i'd like to get the new head and a 2x12 avatar cab...but the funds just ain't there right now...so i'll just probably pickup the 1x12 combo. i've heard nothing but good things from them...save some tube rattle, but that's easily corrected...there's quite a few mods that can be done to them and the rumor is JJ tubes and a speaker upgrade flat out make this amp AWESOME!!!

It appears the head is only made in blonde. I was hoping for a black tolex

what's wrong bro...you know blondes are more fun!?

You can score an older Classic 50 head off ebay in black if you're patient.

Does anyone know if the tube retainer and the tube guard can both be used at the same time?

I'll try that setting Mephis, but the 30 is non master volume. It sounds great when you crank the mids up around 10. Just a very veratile amp. I definately reccomend it to anyone.

By the way, has anyone tried a SD Pickup Booster in front of it?

No master volume?
Heh, that mofo would be hard to practice with late at night, thats the main thing I like about my classic 50, you can get it just wispering loud enough to hear and it still sounds good.

It sounds decent at low volumes, but you really need to get it over 3 on the post gain to sound good.

I've been using a distortion pedal into the clean channel for low volume. Works well.

Glad to hear you're digging on your C30! That's a working mans amp if there ever was one! I've had mine since October, 2003 and not one glitch from her at all. Fact is I'm taking a little break from playing thru mine for about the past two hours and I'm not done yet!
