Has anyone replaced an original or other Floyd Rose trem with a hard tail bridge like a strat type? I want to take the FR off of my Kramer and put in a strat style hard tail bridge but I'm not sure if the mounting holes on the fixed bridge will end up being on wood or on the hole where the trem fits through the body. The Kramer has the quot;sit on topquot; style FR as opposed to the recessed kind.

I would just block the trem with a trem stop or piece of wood, then put 5 springs on the trem. That's the easiest and probably best way.

I agree. No sense in performing all that work to accomodate a hardtail. I think there would be an equal amount of cosmetic work to do as well.

Thanks for you replies. I already have the trem blocked and the pivot screws are screwed down all the way so that the trem is sitting on top of the guitar, not floating.

I also think it might be more work than it is worth and that's why I haven't done it before, but ...

- I hate having to cut the ball end off of the string
- the body is very resonant and I wanted to see what it would be like if I had a string-thru body attachment
- because the trem is not a recessed one, the action is higher than I would like and there are no height adjustments on the saddles like in a strat hardtail

When ever someone asks me about doing so much work to their guitar i normally say just get a different guitar and leave that one alone..... There used to be a bridge called a 2-Tec or something that dropped in a trem guitar and turned it into a sort of hardtail... They were said to of worked great!

Keep in mind if you have a top mounted floyd the neck pocket is more than likely angled too. You might have problems with the height with a standard strat style hardtail even if you got it to work.

Making a Kramer a hardtail is just a horrible thought in my mind, especially for an 80's model. What model is it? What year? Some of the older ones, especially with the hockey stick headstock and block logo, are fetching some decent cash, and going up.

If you are having problems getting the action where you want it, unbolt the neck and put some shims in the back of the neck pocket to give the neck a bit of an angle. Alot of Kramers have had this problem!!!

As others have said, if your gonna do that much work, just get a new guitar.
