Yea, but I want to meet that guitar slinger who has GAS so bad that he will pay for these high $$$ caps.

I won't come right out and say this is quot;snake oilquot; - stranger things have happened - but just think of all the audiophile, and guitar amps out there, that sound good, that don't use these.

It's made of really pure gold and silver it's no wonder it costs so much. Also theres not really much point in sticking a cap that can handle 800V ac into a guitar now is there?! Also I'm not sure I'd trust a distibutor who can't work out the rating or use the correct symbol, mf?!? milli what-nows? You're better off looking at the pic!

What I've found about high quality caps like that is that they do make a diff in tone if the audio signal that passes through them stays in the audio signal...like in an amp. But in a guitar the signal that passes through the tone cap goes to ground and returns to the planet Earth never to be heard from again. So I think an quot;axpensivequot; cap like that or the oil n foil Hovlands are kind of wasted in a guitar's tone circuit. Lew

Actually, I have something similar in my amp, although this might be it. I have a friend who can do wonders with an amp. He modified my Marshall 250DFX, free of labor, in turn to allow him to experiment on it for his engineering class. I pretty sure he used a similar, if not identical, capacitor as described. I remember wondering how a capacitor could cost so much. It was neccessary because of some of the other modifications. All in all, I recieve little, if any hum from my amp, I have a considerable amount of headroom, and am able to produce tones clear as a bell even with the volume on 10. Not shabby for a SOLID.

exactly - that's why amp builders pay top dollar for old mustard capacitors on ebay for their Marshalls, yet none of them use them in guitars.

Yep...Like Lew said,you're just shunting highend to ground and any decent quality cap will get us there,plus you don't need a big voltage handling cap..

Ah yes, mojo. Gotta love mojo...LOL. I'll stick with my Radio Shack greenie chicklets or red Panasonic caps. They work fine for me.
