Here's a song (no vocals yet) I recorded with my somewhat newly acquired ENGL Fireball:
from : localhost/was a Fender Strat w/Floyd and Distortion bridge. Chain was guitar-gt; amp-gt; cab (5150 straight w/Vintage 30's)-gt; SM-57/SM-58 (combined in mix for each guitar track)-gt; Edirol FA-101 (IEEE-1394 interface)-gt; computer.
I dig it! It has that nice, smooth ENGL character. But, it doesn't quite have the thickness or punch I'm used to out of a Powerball. Is that just the voicing of the amp, or the way you had it EQ'd?
If it doesn't sound thick and punchy to you, then it's something I've failed to capture in the recording/mixing process.
For comparison's sake, here's a sample of one of the rhythm tracks:
from : localhost/www.cranusmetal.com/drucifer-...-sm57-sm58.mp3
It sounds great. I think all of the guitar sounds are pretty killer. I wasn't wild about the bass tone but everything else was top notch.
Wow great riffs and tone! The solo kinda reminds me of kirk hammet with more taste.
I still dig the tone, and it is tight and punchy, but when I think of ENGL, I think of this:
from : localhost/koti.mbnet.fi/juhau/torniojaws_riffiskaba_28.mp3
Thanks for listening, guys.
I hear ya on the bass tone. I didn't really spend a lot of time on it. It's recorded direct through my POD XT Live.
