Tone, how well do they preserve the orig. sound? anything else.
I have the Boss
I have the Boss also. I don't really use it much any longer. I use a Spina modded TS9. I think it sounds better. I think it depends on how you set it. I have asways set my Boss as a Clean Boost. Set the Gain very low and set the volume and tone acording to the sound I am after. I used it with a SF Super Reverb and a Deluxe Reverb, so those amps gave me beautiful tube cleans and natural OD. I liked to use the SOD to enhance sustain and increase volume slkightly. Very nice Pedal.... Very underrated.
Well i don't think anybody is interested but on bass the DOD Malmsteen is a really great pedal. Keeps the original sound and take the lows really good. It's maybe bassy when playing electric guitar?

Both will color the sound. The BOSS doing it the least amount. The YJM-308 is anything but bassy. It actually behaves somewhat like a treble boost. Just listen to Yngwie's tone. Granted, he uses single-coils but even with humbuckers I hear a drop in the low-end with it.
I had the YJM and i hated it. It killed the bass raised the treble to a sick amount and was sterile, it was horrible.
thanks.
I was mainly going to use it as a boost. I like the boss but G.A.S. hits hard sometimes

Don't rule out the SFX-01 Duncan Booster?
I have thought of it. Will it work great for a little more gain on solos?

Yes and it has a mode switch that gives you tonal differences in the overall boosted tone, plus the amount of boost is adjustable...It's a great pedal and priced right.
I do not like the newer Boss Super OD's.... i have a few and they just seem too mushy for me... I like an old 80's Tokai and a old 80's TS10 for overdriving and amp these days.... The Boss od i do like to add a bit of a boost to a clean channel but i hate it as a solo boost.
WhoFan
thanks
I have the Boss super overdrive (just used it at a gig actually) and its good, it does all i want from it (solo boost bit of extra gain). And it will take all the abuse you could ever throw at it and still work.
