I have seen that to remove the cover of a bucker you can use a dremel to saw the welding, but is there other way to it when you don't have a dremel?

Yes.. They´re usually not welded on, but soldered, on of the reasons being the high temperatures of welding would run the risk of melting the bobbins....

So, with a soldering Iron you can unsolder the joint (s) and pop it off with a screwdriver

Thanks Zerb, I guess my English isn't precise enough yet, I meant soldered, as you explained it. What would you preconise for someone that doesn't have either a dremel or a soldering iron? Is there another way to undo the joint nicely?

Well, without a Dremel or a soldering Iron there really isn´t a quot;cleanquot; way to remove it anymore......unless you happen to have a bone saw or laser scalpel handy

But maybe someone else has an idea... A soldering iron should be about 20 quid for a decent one, and you´ll need it for more than just removing covers if you get more into it... definitely a sound investment

a home should not be without a soldering iron.

really. i mean it. go and get it. life is so much easier when you have one.

you really shouldnt even try to undo it without an iron and a solder pump

Ok... I guess you are right (well actually I am sure you are) but I am usually not very good with tools that can be dangerous . but true again Zerb, I'd quite like to get more into it.

So know the question is, is there a brand or a model you would suggest me? Any specification required?
I am really entering a world I don't know anything about. But I guess, after trying to set myself my guitar up, I already started to walk the path. So be it.

umm.. dont know any specific brands or anything.. just for starters, keep it below 40W. i got a 100W one and that aint a toy.
i also got a 25W one and it can handle everything guitar related (and many other things) without any problems

You can use an X-Acto saw to safely cut through those solder joints. Just ever so slightly aim towards the inside of the HB cover while cutting so to avoid nicking the coils while sawing. The X-Acto saws are available in better hobby shops everywhere.

Razor Saw, Bingo... Thanks, I know what I was forgetting....

That means in a pinch I could even use nut-slotting files

As far as soldering Irons: I recommend an Adjustable 45-50 watt unit such as those produced by Weller (NOT a gun, too hamfisted)....

45 W will allow you to heat up a pot casing quickly so you can get off quickly (the less heat into the pot, the better), while not being too hot for single-wire work... with a 25w Iron you´ll have to stay on the pot MUCH longer...and if it´s adjustable then about halfway is absolutely PERFECT for the smaller jobs and full bore for the nitty-gritty
