When did Clapton use the Black Beauty Les Paul Custom? Cream? Mayall?
I was under the impression he used a sunburst Paul with Mayall.
And on the Live at the Grande Ballroom bootleg from '67, was he using the SG the entire gig or was the Paul involved as well?

Clapton had (what was assumed to be) a 60 LP During the Mayall years, right up to be formation of Cream. That was stolen, and he used a few different bursts until he got the SG. He used the SG as the main guitar for most of Cream, however he did use that Custom as a backup guitar (as well as the 335 and Firebird- which became the main guitars after the SG). You see it occassionally until after the Delaney and Bonnie days.

i just know he got Brownie in '67 and in 1970 he bought several 50s strats from Sho-Bud music in Nashville for $100 each, built Blackie with all the best parts from each one and the rest is history.
